My wife bought us a Keurig brewer for Christmas. She was over at Kohl's this afternoon, and came home with some coffee for it. The little single servings that it takes are called "K cups", but every time someone says that, it brings to mind a very large busted woman, at least in my mind.

Am I the only one?

Lol, no, but for the machine I prefer the screen basket cup so you can use whatever beans you like and fresh grind them.

I think the same thing, but when people mention that old Datsun sports car, 280-ZX.

But then you have to clean that cup thing every use, which to me defeats a lot of the purpose of the Kurieg. Just find coffee you really like that comes in the K cups and stock up when it's on sale. My favorites are Starbucks Veranda blend (blond roast) and the Nantucket Breakfast Blend. mmmmmm

There are also good ones from Caribou Coffee.

I have 3 Keurigs, that's about the minimum to own if you expect to reliably have a cup of coffee when you wake up. The good news is, Keurig knows this too and their service department will send you a new one without much hesitation.

'Love them Keurigs... my most recent favorites... Pacific Bold (ala Starbucks) and Hawaiian, cheap at Costco.

I switched to a Saeco fully automatic espresso machine about a year ago, but had a Kuerig at home for several years and I still have one at the hangar. Timothy's Midnight Magic is my favorite and I have tried a bunch. I don't care for weak coffee, though.

The trick to making them last a long time is to use distilled water in them. I love mine.

Highly recommend using www.bigcatcoffees.com. You can piece together a pack of your favorite K-cups and have them delivered. Very cool way to try out many kinds.

However, I will say that my favorite one is the Donut Shop coffee you can find at just about any retailer. Add a bit of cinnamon vanilla and French vanilla creamer with a dash of sugar for a pretty tasty cup.

I had my first one over two years when it finally died. I tried everything to keep it going too and it worked for awhile. Called and they said they couldn't give me a free one since it was well out if warranty. So they gave me 50% off the new version of mine which was one of the nicer ones a few years ago with the 5 sizes it could brew. No complaints here!

Seem kinda stupid to me. I drink about a half gallon of coffee a day and I like to make it once and be done with it.

The next person can have hot cider, hot cocoa, tea, decalf coffee, what ever. We gave them out as gifts this year to several family members. My 86 year old mom loves it! When she has people over they can get what they want. Many flavors to choose from. Its a great gift.

I love them.

Those who commented about reliability issues should try owning a Meile. Those are a REAL pain.

We got so tired of listening to family and friends ***** about what kind of coffee, tea, etc. they wanted. We really have become a Starbuck's society, just listen to the way people order coffee. Having a Keurig solved all those issues. For example we put Keurig's in our guest rooms, which worked out great because people now travel with the specific kinds of K-cups they like.

I gave one to my mom and one to my daughter. They both are coffee holics

We got one for Christmas as well.
I love the convenience but Keurig and I disagree about what a large cup of coffee is. I have to run it twice to put what I consider the correct volume of coffee in a mug.

Run the first cup on Large then then the second on Medium with one container. So it helps cut the cost almost in half. Tried the " put in your on coffee deal";too much hassle.

I keep a Keurig down at the house in NC since we're there infrequently at this point. Easier to leave the K-CUPS sitting around than coffee beans.

In VA, we never have coffee that has been roasted more than three days ago. I roast my own (mostly Kona from one of two plantations I deal with out there).

I've had a couple for years. I don't drink coffee myself but I bought one for the office because cleaning the coffee pot was difficult. My wife is addicted to Revv. My employees like all the fancy stuff. I quit buying k cups in the store. You can find them online for about half price and a lot more variety. Coffee icon is who I use and have been happy with but there are many others.

I have a Keurig at the office. it is convenient but the coffee is marginal at best. I have a good espresso machine at home. I start with a double shot of espresso and dilute it with hot water to make Cafe Americano and that is really good stuff.

I guess I didn't know Keurig's were sold only in the US.

That's a funny American name.

You may find it funny, but the company is American. It was formed by a couple of guys in Massachusetts and then later sold to Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, a Vermont specialty coffee company.

They named the company using the Dutch word for "excellence."

Lots of people I know seem to own one. It was the door prize at the company holiday party and the guy who won already had one. I've lost my taste for coffee so I won't be getting one anytime soon. Besides, I'm not much into kitchen gadgets.

Lol, yeah, but I doubt there's a lot of Keurigs in use over there. Plastic bags are the main issue, and water bottles. People come to Bali thinking it's going to be a beautiful tropical paradise, but the beaches are packed with litter and when you go swimming you keep fetching up plastic bags.:(

Has anyone run the numbers on one of these versus a regular coffee maker ? It's amazing to me how people become so enamored by stupid ****. I predict in five years you'll all have gone back to making coffee the regular way. Anybody still use a hot shaving cream dispenser ?

I pay $12 for 2 pounds of Dunkin Dark Roast (which I like a lot). I get about 20 days of hot coffee, approx 60oz a day. Given the average Keurig price per cup, I'd say I am saving $5 a day. The coffee maker I have was bought on a gift certificate so I saved roughly $80-150 for the brewer too! But then, those I know who have the Keurig, also buy coffee daily at the local coffee shop.
I do like the choices from Keurig and the taste. I just do not think they are cost effective when drinking large quantities. Single cup, sure. Probably energy and cost effective. But 1/2 a gallon? Not even close.

I drink coffee for the caffeine-it's the rich taste I can do without. :D

K cups are not a good deal. You pay for the convenience. The coffee is mediocre but sometimes that is the best you can do.

Gave my wife one last Christmas. She uses it in her classroom. Not coffee (she doesn't like the stuff), but just about everything else. I gave her some k-cups for chocolate mocha this years (she will drink coffee that way). Very convenient. And that's what you are paying for - convenience.

Yet we complain about government waste... We are a wasteful society.

I think the same thing, but when people mention that old Datsun sports car, 280-ZX.

So I work in auto parts.... had fun when I first started in the mid 90's and got a visit at the yard from a lady sourcing parts. She said her mechanic told her to find a twenty-eight ounce water pump.

 Huh?

After a few attempts to figure it out, she finally showed me the scrap of paper that she was handed by the mech.

"Please find a 28 0z Water Pump. Denton County Auto Salvage may have it"

I nearly asked her if she also wanted a 710 cap and some blinker fluid.

My Keurig is still quicker and less expensive than going downstairs to the coffee shop in the hospital lobby.

Yep, but you can use a basket and coffee with just a tiny bit more effort in the same machine and not create all the waste.
