I don't know if this is real or fake but I am assuming real.
If so, this is the most precise thing I have seen in any form of aviation.

Real, lots of fun. Check out IRCHA, it's like oshkosh for rc helicopters.

Makes ya wonder how many heli's he went through before he got it down pat...

Put the monkey in the cockpit and see if he makes it without a {stomach upset}

Definitely real. The dude is pretty legendary. Here's another video of him with better light.

I stopped flying rc helis because it was cheaper to fly real airplanes...

Oh my god! Now you have done it. Don't EVER say that around RC enthusiasts! They will beat you up for not considering their machines to be REAL airplanes.

We will protect you as best we can, but we can only do so much. Perhaps you should go into hiding.

You have to say "Full scale" :lol::lol:

Reminds me of my first hands-on flight in an R-22. Trying to hold a hover.

It's real. I started flying R/C helicopters at a field in Grapevine with some really skilled guys. I sort of washed out when I got frustrated hovering and flying figure eights while they were doing this stuff.

Precision flying right there. I wished they showed the stick movement. Electric rc helicopters has changed the playing field.

You mean Electric, Gyro Stabilized with computerized controllers. Still impressive flying, but not possible prior to the technology.

People were flying nitro 3d before there were 3 axis gyros.

Yup, true story.

Friend of a friend had a sponsorship from a fuel company. They got their panties in a bunch because they thought he was going through 55 gallon drums so quickly he must be giving the stuff away. Visited him at his practice field and discovered that he was flying 6-10 hours a day and legitimately using that much fuel.

Add that kind of dedication to modern electronics and you get the video that started this thread.

The video may be real, but some of the physics don't pass the eye test. In particular, it is odd how the helicopter holds altitude at times when there is little or no vertical component to the lift vector.

Yup real. It's called 3D flying and has been around for quite a while. It not the gyro that progressed the ability to fly this way it's the flybarless rotor systems, high speed brushless motors and newer lypo batteries that has allowed this type of flying. The words/images on the one w/ lighted blades are done w/ special blades that have LED's on them and a cpu/chip that gets programmed w/ the light show sequence and can be controlled by one of the switches in the radio controller.

Brian;
I was a member of Team Robbie in the 1990's and did most of the stuff in that video back then using a JR 10X programmable (rates and throws) radio, homemade rotor/engine governer and a JR 3000 Peizo gyro. At that time you had to actually point the heli where you wanted it and time the inputs without any cyclic, collective or T/R auto stabilization. The fellow in the video below is multi-time World 3D Champion Curtis Youngblood of Georgetown Tx. Though this vid is of Curtis after he left Robbie for JR it show he really could do anything they do now and do it without the fancy 3 axis gyro training wheels...
IMPO he was (and is) the best in the world!
