Huh? Woman complains about Hobby Lobby display

This Yankee child BOUGHT a cotton boll as a souvenir on a visit to Atlanta. I only remember this because I found it years later in a box of old stuff.

I heard from a guy at work that someone sued an aspirin company for putting cotton in the top of the bottles, claiming it was offensive.

if it was Bayer aspirin, there are far more offensive things to worry about than a fkng cotton ball

Bayer

Had something similar a few years back at a Duane Reade where there was a roll of wrapping paper that borrowed a traditional Cambodian pattern. If you looked at the pattern as a whole it was two interlocking lines that bent in opposite directions and went on to create a weave. If you took a scissors and cut out just that one small portion of the pattern, it could look like a swastika.

The ADL good involved. It was dumb.

But I am going to quit wearing T shirts (which I wear every day) time), underwear (cammo time) as they're made of cotton, and you know, 999 years ago slaves had to pick the cotton to make them.
I'd be down to the blazer, socks, and shoes...and I ain't gonna do that, cause it would be a BAD way to dress for jail!

Some folks are truly ignorant of other cultures. Here's a picture I took a number of years ago in Taiwan. That swastika has been around a lot longer than Hitler and his cronies.

And with regards to the person complaining about the display at Hobby Lobby, some folks just need a reason to be offended. She's an idiot, enough said.

You know I was kidding. I agree completely.

Yeah right, like that's gonna happen. I ain't giving up my T shirts!
WCBP! White Cotton Ball Power!
Your wife told us that you had no ball power.

The nazi swastika went the other direction so the one you pictured is cannot be offensive.

It offends me that they are offended.
So now we're all offended and thus have equal treatment.

and now....back to our regularly scheduled fukking off at work reading the poa forum program.

Looks like a chapter of POOP forming here. People Offended by Offended People

That, and cell phones and social media.

And forwarded emails...

You guys are so behind on tech. I get my offense directly from Slack and Google Hangouts these days. ;)

And then there's the real OGs getting their offense from this ancient propaganda machine known as a "TeeVee". I hear people still believe the crap that comes out of those. :)

TeeVee is old tech. I found another way to consume information though - it gets "pushed" to my front yard every morning. I can open it and page through it all day without using any battery power. Only problem is that after I close it, I still have to delete it. I end up moving it into the recycle bin, but then I have to empty THAT on a regular basis.

I am fascinated by this. Do you have an electronic newsletter about this old tech that I can subscribe to? Or a Slack channel or Google Hangout where we can discuss this historical instrument of information dissemination?

I tried right clicking on it to forward, but that doesn't seem to do anything. I'll see what else I can come up with - maybe I'll have to figure out how to print off a page, scan it, then email?

Ghery, I'm sure you know this, but I'll just point out for others who don't--that is NOT a Third Reich swastika. It is a Buddhist symbol, that the Nazi's appropriated. They also, by the way, turned it the wrong way!

It is also a Hindu symbol, mentioned in the Vedas. They call it "svastik" (in Hindi: स्वस्तिक). The symbol is also used by Jains.

The TeeVee is the old tech. He referred to something totally different. As he explained it has many undesirable characteristics and your interest is misplaced. Basically the stuff he uses is a technological dead-end and it won't be supported for much longer.

The only thing I can say about the original complaint is, "It takes all kinds!"

to quote Cayde-6, "Oh My Cotton Socks!"

What's next, banning the Dukes of Hazard because the General Lee has a certain flag painted on the roof?
Does this mean that Daisey Duke will have to remove her cotton jeans shorts ????:D

Dunno if you'd want that now...

Same here. I was visiting Huntsville AL in 1965, and our host took us out into his cotton fields and let us pick stalks of cotton. I brought them home to my mother and she used them in flower arrangements.
I suppose I'll have to dig Mom up and hang a "Racist" sign on her urn.

Damnit. I want a newsletter and a YouTube channel about this old tech to watch! ;-)

America. A place where stupid people become famous and other stupid people debate their stupid viewpoints.

Everyone should live in a third world country for about a month. Come back and see how little these stupid people matter.

Oh no doubt we have it great here. So much better than the third world. I guess you could say we are living the high cotton life.

We had a minor furor in DC a while back because one of the mayor's staff used the word "niggardly" in a proper context and was strung up and fired over it. At least the NAACP got some backbone and pointed out that people shouldn't have to censor their speech because those who hear it might be stupid.

This. I just finished watching a Spanish TV series made from 2011 to 2013. There were several references to race in there that you will not see in American entertainment anymore. Not really racist but just matter of fact observations like "he has frizzy hair like a black person" stuff like that. Watching that I realized how extremely censored we are in America now staying completely away from any and all mention that could be the slightest bit construed as even noticing a race might have a different physical characteristic. Apparently this hasn't fully arrived in Europe, or at least in Spain by 2013.

I was once criticized for using the phrase "calling a spade a spade" by someone who apparently didn't know that it predates the use of "spade" to refer to a black male by over thee centuries.

We had a black flight attendant turn in a Capt in for saying "hey gal" to her. Nothing happened but jeez.
