Hey Spike, what's a tag?

You hit the "edit tags" button on the far right of the screen Nick posted.

Yeah, and since I posted tag-a-licious (which to my way of thinking WAS humorous, was NOT offensive, obscene, or breaking any other rules of conduct), I'm annoyed that it was removed WITHOUT any PM from any MC member.

If I get out of line, I expect to be counseled on it, not just muzzled. And I don't understand how tag-a-licious was in violation of the RoC.

Agree completely.

FWIW, "Tag-a-delic" is somehow less offensive?

OK! I will steer clear of the Edit Tags button! (how on earth did anyone even find that??)

"Offensive" is apparently in the eye of the beholder.

I was tempted to start a poll on this, but I don't think that's appropriate either. I have the impression that actions by any member of the MC are peer-reviewed. I'd like to be informed of the result of that process. Mr Cutler's response was NOT adequate, in my opinion, as the message I received from it was "quit whining". I'm pretty sure that's not the message he intended to send, but there was not even any acknowledgement that there might be a valid complaint.

I like this board. I like Ron. So I don't want this disagreement to be about personalities. I think there's something wrong with the process when something that is not patently offensive or obscene or illegal gets deleted without discussion, either privately or publicly. There is going to be a certain amount of subjectivity, but I don't believe "stupid" is where the line should be drawn. I'm actually a bit offended that the tag was called stupid - as other folks clearly saw the humor involved in it.

I thought about just dropping it, or leaving, but I feel like this is MY community as much as anyone else's, and if I can't expect it to improve if I don't give voice to something that I think is a legitimate problem.

I don't want to pile it on, I honestly believe that the MC is doing a great job lately, but I have been saying similar things for a while....it was great when Jesse and Spike came on board and we started to get feedback on MC actions.....but there's still that one rogue MC member that seems to let his power get in the way.

Great poster of aviation related information, great knowledge of FARs, but horrible management skills. I assume, like everything else in life, that it will work itself out in the long run.

Agreed -- it's a process issue. If adequate controls are in place, individual personality impact is diminshed. However, developing and deploying such controls are labor-intensive.

The good ole Constitution can be instructional -- divide authority, and place checks and balances, and presume that "The powers not delegated ... nor prohibited .. are reserved to the .... people."

I appreciate this forum as there is moderation and oversight -- the wild west untrammelled lunacy evident on the rec.aviation forums in the last few years threw me for a loop (I was on rec.bicycle.racing in the early 90s and never saw the type of attack of all sorts I later witnessed on rec.aviation, to include looking up my family names and threatening harm. Yeah, that bad.)

But there is a huge difference between direct attack and vile posts and just sorta goofy or funny or off-hand posts.

And like pornography, we all know the difference.

The MC is discussing it internally, Tim, and it's still open.

Folks, don't make more of this than it is.

The MC does not routinely delete "stuff" without process, so if it happens from time to time, before you start collecting pitchforks and lighting torches, maybe think about sending a PM to an MC member or two, see what's up.

Sometimes, we just mess-up and, pending a pay raise, we may still again.

I don't see any torches being gathered... just a reasonable question from reasonable folks. :yesnod:

I've had posts deleted/edited, and never knew exactly why. It would seem more productive to actually contact the offending party and make him/her aware of the fault, donchya think?

I don't think you should be using the royal "we" in this case, honestly Spike. The MC is doing a great job as of late. I think everything is improving vastly!

If you've had a post edited or deleted since August 30th 2009 and were never contacted by the MC - I agree - that is not how it should be. Please PM me the details.

+1. Mistakes happen. If someone PM's me about such an issue - I *will* figure out where we went wrong and work to resolve it.

Why thank you Nick....

Although my first grade German teacher would kill me for screwing up the capitalization :D

Click Edit Tags.

It is awkward.

It is not as awkward in vb4. When you create a new thread there is a box it for entering tags.
There is a box right now when you create a thread. It is right below the text entry box and it is current set to be able to enter 5 tags as the thread starter.

FYi if anyone wants a quick intro and discussion on tagging here is a source that I ran into on a tagging project I am working on.

Roush, Wade. Tagging is it. Technology Review v 108 no. 6, p. 21-22

I cannot actually post the article as MIT retains their distribution rights and prevents me from even emailing it. But you can get it from your local library if they have the EBSCO database for that journal.

Always glad to see new rules. What's this about?
