I am glad to hear I am not the only one - have reported in the past about: billing for days not received, wrong daily rate, top off when I had topped it 2 miles ago, drop off fees which I had been told were waived, multiple ingenious ways to scam you (I have heard of, and fear, the 'car was damaged in your care' ploy). I think my last rant here was 'Hertz Hurts' and I swore off them but no rental company is above this.
I suspect that this is the same scam that many large companies, not just rentals are pulling now as a means of additional revenue. They probably have a secret term for it but the way it works is, they tack on charges knowing 75% of customers won't notice, don't have the 30minutes required to phone these people each time, don't see the bill because it goes to their accounting department etc.
My last one was the waste disposal company which, after I reported their equipment was rusting out, and without mention of a fee to me, changed the dumpster, sending me a $300 fee plus $9.00 per month thereafter plus another ambiguous fee and taxes.
It took 6 months of calling and writing these people to get them to remove it, and admit they were wrong. (I am nothing, if not persistent) Each of the 6+ people I called told me they would take care of it, have all charges removed yet only the last person did. That in itself is another scam, telling customers they would remove the fees and then don't - or tell customers they would call back (and not call back; all of them did this). I also take names and write down who, date and time, what was said, how it was left which I think helped my case. Thinking of starting to record these calls.
Thank God there is one other competitor in the waste disposal business where I am (there often is no competitor such as with AT&T)
