Flying the RNAV 28 approach into KMLJ over Lake Sinclair today.

Flying home to flat Netherlands on monday.. will miss the scenery!

You may not have mountains... But you do have tulips, windmills, and other things that make NL a beautiful place as well!
I love the Netherlands. Some of the nicest people and Gouda cheese rocks. @dennisc172 if you ever want to fly south to Baden Württemburg, I will help cover gas and go flying.

Here some pictures from our flight to Rough River, KY to the infamous fly-in... :D

Somewhere over Ohio. A lot of water everywhere...

... and these four Marshmallows flew with us from Hartford, KY to Flint, MI:

Sunset over west Michigan... smoothest air I’ve had since I got the ol girl in November - air was perfectly smooth. Images like this one and others share remind me the ol Willie Nelson song “ Good Morning America”. Different era it sang of but of a similar experience of what Aviation brings us today, the train did back then. Would be a cool video to put a bunch of pics off this thread to that song...

Reposting only because the pic and glass of Malbec have inspired me.. 5FDF6D1C-4536-42A6-9D54-54BD8D2646F8.jpeg

My Metal Maiden Of The Sky

My Metal Maiden of the sky, unspeakable moments pass not us by...

No words nor even photographs do justice to our times.

How do we tell mere mortal earthbound men of what we have seen from the sky?

The mournful hues of days last light, the youthful glimmer of dawns first sight..

Upon your glistening wing, a deistic god am I.

While ants below me hustle, scurry, labor and race, their folly I can see.

With sadness I do realize; all to soon, that too will be me.

My Metal Maiden and Refuge In The Sky I thank you for the rescue and the times we spend on high...

I'm really glad to be able to buy Gouda (and smoked Gouda!) in almost every grocery store around here now. Maybe that's a Wisconsin thing (we do love our cheese) but I'm guessing not.

And I can get stroopwafels relatively easily now too. World Market carries them, along with some other places. Saw them in Costco recently and bought them, but they were kinda dry. They'll never compare to getting the fresh ones at the market over there, though.

Still haven't seen any poffertjes here, though. :dunno:

5 months unemployment, followed by losing my father, followed by advanced stage skin cancer and resultant surgeries.. I'm finally back on the upswing (both physically and mentally). It was a tough year. I determined it was a great time to get my 182 caught up - I had an autopilot install and some other work slated before all the mess. I declared "f* it" and flew from KJYO to KLAL last Saturday and brought along a good pilot friend. We were in the air at 5:45AM, one bounce in southern NC, and arrived in FL at 11:50. It felt GOOOOOOOOOOOOOD.

It was a cool morning (53 deg F) at KJYO, winds were 310 22g35. First hour was bumpy, but smoothed out with a strong quartering tailwind for the entire remainder of the flight. At one point (picture below) we hit a max ground speed of 174 mph. The 182 consistently carried a TAS of 155 mph at 8,500' at 11 gph.

Turned out awesome! What do you get at max cruise?

A ray of sun on the water of the Long Island sound( these are my favorite shots to take— just love the rays of light hitting the water look!)

Same place, same time of day, different plane:

Another day, wanted to get a good pic of my plane, caught another plane taking off (shadow):

3.9 actual, 4.2 total. No auto-pilot, deviations, turbulence, and only one real pucker moment getting bounced around in a rainy cloud. Actual is a world of difference from foggles on a VFR day. I’m beat.

Bye bye seat belt dings! Someone left it hanging out years ago n really pelted it up. Didn’t feel up to flying today so pulled out the scotchbrites, alumiprep and alodine n primer. Really lucked out on paint- was painted w a GM white- stock duplicolor colarmatch brand- in stock at NAPA aviation :) Tested it in a spot and it’s spot on match. The grey is the filler primer for the dings- I cheated n didn’t strip the two panels. 697032B1-D969-4785-B6C0-816B92A4EC15.jpeg

So today, after being grounded the past 2 weeks with weather, today was CAVU to start with some scattered at 2500’ at destination. I went back to where it all started in 1977 for me. Dad taught me to fly his AA-1 Yankee out of Pryor Field (DCU). I didn’t remember much about the field other than the main hangar now desolate. Pics of some tired ramp queens. Parked and left where they sat. The AN-2 was picked up and deposited 1mile away during a T Storm. Check out the upswept wing lol. Low level pic of TN River coming out of DCU while skating under HSV Class C.

Check out the Dog Mooney. At least he has solar power battery tender.

The Cherokee rotting in the sun was a sad sight.

Need a Citation? Word has it new engines are all it needs. Current owners couldn’t agree 8 years ago lol

Stopped at Lawrenceburg TN (2M2) on way home and had lunch at The Brass Tavern Legends Steak House. Good stuff.

Looks like it was purchased in 1990 and never registered again after the FAA started requiring renewals. Registration expired 2013. :(

New engines, new boots, new windows, new paint, and surely plenty of things that aren't so obvious.

That one's registration is interesting, too... Sounds like there might be more to the story. Purchased by a Syed Faizullah in Decatur in 2007, but then "Sale Reported" to Florence, AL in 2009, but the new owner never registered it.

Was this AN-2 abandoned after the right lower wing got bent.??

According to the guy I flagged down this AN-2 and the other one (you can see it in the background of the Cherokee pic) were to be restored before the damage from the storm. The rudder is also bent

Finally was able to align schedule/ weather and life and got back in the air after the longest period of not flying since I got my license( one and a half months!). Made two great landings too!

Got the first one on my way up to KBAF.

Once there the ramp was pretty packed but the planes were parked oddly( not in straight lines.) I had a large Gulfstream parked right in front of me but this guy had to slalom his way into a spot right in front of me too( which made my exit a little tougher!). Was able to snap this shot of the plane- not sure which kind of plane it is though- some sort of a single engine turboprop.
