An amusing day with winds today…

World record ground speed for a 150?

Lots of crab to kick out!

Looks like 39 degree correction angle and a healthy 49 knots over the ground!

Last week I flew in some healthy winds also. I saw 42 kts a couple times on my G5.

45kt cross wind. Surprising it was pretty smooth. Pretty sure this is considered wind shear this low to the ground. Oh yea the winds were calm on the ground!

Fri night after dark I flew with my buddy in his cherokee during my IPC , the winds were even stronger. We both got beat up pretty good.

Turn into the wind and hover!

Earlier last week or two? I was flying into a 34kt headwind over Miami/Oxford Ohio stadium during slow flight and achieved near zero ground speed. Hoovered in this spot for about 2 minutes. The ESP kicked in and the garmin lady was calling out "ground speed, ground speed!" in my headset. I was too busy flying the plane to take pictures of my panel. Flight aware confirmed very low ground speed. When I was learning to fly my flight instructor had us flying backward one day.

Wonder what those funky winglets are.

Probably specialized test instrumentation. I found this:

From a flight on Wednesday. Most consistent winds I've ever seen - and it wasn't just some Foreflight glitch, the winds were pretty much 40-43 all the way up. It was pretty smooth about 4,000 or so, of course no wind shear to cause turbulence.

I do like how this shows the increasing TAS of a turbocharged airplane with altitude, how the ETE gets shorter and the fuel usage goes down even with the increased time-to-climb.

Walking our dog Halo yesterday, I took this photo looking back at our TN hangar/home.

Nothing too remarkable. Except it was 11PM - by moonlight on an overcast night! Hence, quite dark. Night Mode on current iPhones is quite remarkable, this on a iPhone 12 Pro Max and unretouched. Amazing!

Not meaning to imply other phones can’t equal or better this performance. But the tech is really cool regardless.

Made my last flight in the club archer this afternoon, burning off my last couple accumulated hours. Logged 4 new airports.

The only good thing about "Northerly Island" is you can enjoy the lakefront without having to talk to anyone. What airports did you knock off the list?

You look a little high here - bravo clearance?

3CK is my nemesis… something about the site picture and I always pancake landings there…
No...I just wasn't all that close and it was hazy. 3500'. The approach controllers seemed grumpier than the last time I was up there. The 6 day weeks are probably taking a toll. Every single one of them ended every transmission with "remain OUTSIDE the bravo".

PWK was the one that surprised me. I got 24, which looks real short coming in over those trees. The tower controllers were the friendliest I've ever talked to. They actually sounded like they were having fun.

Try 09 at 10c. Displaced threshold and going downhill. Usually has pretty competitive fuel prices.

Reminds me of the cloud seeding videos

They are getting some badly needed snow right now. There was once a small airport in that crowded valley.
