Colt filing for bankruptcy

Well, they make some great 1911's, and where else are you going to get a Single Action Army revolver that is made in the U.S. Plus there's the horse on the side. The make great AR-15's also. I think for the money, Colt makes some of the best 1911's and AR's around.

Yes I do own Colt 1911's, and AR's and have had them for years of reliable service.

Nothing Colt makes is high end enough to save them, nor is it value minded enough to save them. That's where the market is headed. High end specialized custom guns or affordable with decent quality firearms. Everyone makes AR's these days. The only difference is the roll mark on the side of it. There are only a couple of forges in the country that make lowers. There is nothing a 6920LE Colt can do that a Ruger AR-556 or M&P Sport 15 can't do. Plus it's so cheap to build your own now, that it's really the way to go.

I know a lot of people that feel that way, but for me a $700 Colt Government Model, or $1K Gold Cup are still some of the best values out there. You are getting good steel, and quality construction still made in the U.S. Their AR's are Milspec, and I have found more accurate, and reliable in my experience than similar Bushmasters, etc, which I have also had. My LE6920/M4 has NEVER had a malfunction. It is also a sub MOA gun, right out of the box. It came with Magpul furniture from the factory and was still under $1K.

While not technically Single Action Army's, Ruger has an extensive line of made-in-the-US single action revolvers.

Yes, and I like them, but the lockwork is completely different, and the dimensions are slightly different. The only other U.S. compnay that was offering SAA's was USFA, but they got out of that business. I have a USFA, and can verify they are as good as Colts, but not around anymore, sadly.

EXACTLY!!!! We have been duped into believing in, and supporting with the lives of children, a system that provides us no good options, but you'll defend it to your last breath. Every investment you make profits the same people who own the system; through leverage of their old money, they control all the new money.

We don't have a Free Market economy, it is a lie, the Federal Reserve has a monopoly on the entire financial system, and the Federal Reserve through leveraged capital is a private family business, the richest family on Earth worth over a Trillion dollars, and they could give a flying **** about our best interest, we are just their servants, we aren't really worthy of anything.

I know, Rothschilds, "European Banking Families", blah, blah ... maybe it will start to make some sense tonight after a fifth of scotch in the Spin Zone.

Oh, so only Colt knows how to build a "milspec" AR-15? YGTBSM. Everyone is fully capable of building a milspec AR-15 these days. The basic 6920 right now is going for roughly $850. So you're willing to spend 250 bucks on a Colt logo on the side of the gun? You know what they say, sucker born every minute. Of course a Colt is better than a Bushmaster, anything made by the Freedom Group is garbage these days. Want the quality that Bushmasters were known for 15 years ago? Buy a Windham Weaponry build, they're the original guys from Bushmaster, before Freedom jacked it up.

Uberti builds some great SAA clones these days, but they aren't US built (why anyone would care about that, is beyond me).

It only makes sense when you can admit to yourself you have been believing lies all your life, which started in grade school with Washington chopping down a cherry tree with a hatchet as a child. Just study history from conflicting sides' sources for a bit and go back a few thousand years and the truth is undeniable. Having learned history from both the European and American perspective growing up the differences were always curious to me, but as I got further into the details of European history I noticed that no matter who was fighting a war, the financing for both sides came from the place, and it is the same place we finance ours through. There were always still anomalies though, and as I studied Islamic history, a lot of gaps and anomalies were settled.

I had a Bushmaster over 15 years ago. A post ban HBAR carbine with a free floated barrel. It short cycled, wasn't very accurate and I got rid of it. No thanks. I never said that Colt was the only company that can build milspec, but for the money, I think they are one of the better ones out there. You can not go wrong with a Colt AR.

Yes, I know the guys from Bushmaster went to Windham. They probably still aren't staking the carrier keys either. Colt does.

For the record, I think BCM, and several others produce good AR's.

As I understand it, Colt refused to add the "safety" features that hand gun manufacturers "voluntarily" added to kill some of the legislation and/or lawsuits that were threatened. It was billed as a principled stand. This essentially removed them from the consumer market for hand guns. In general, its probably a whole bunch of things that did them in. And they're not necessarily gone yet, they might be bought or recover. Hey, it COULD happen.

I've fired several different .45 1911s. My three favorites are: (circa 2009) Kimber, (circa 2012) SIG and Colt Gold Medal. They are head a shoulders above the other versions in my personal opinion. I have never shot a Wilson but they are certainly highly regarded.

John

Obviously the market doesn't agree with you..

Colt has mismanaged the business. The market buys LOTS of Colt. As others have said this is about Defense Contracts, not consumer products.

Just down the road.........

Word on the street is...... They make bad ass stuff...

Ps... Wyoming is a GREAT place to live....:):)

The only reason Wyoming is a great place to live is because nobody lives there and the only industry is limited to coal and gas exploitation which doesn't need many people. How do you think it will be to live in Jackson Hole when Colt, GM, Chrysler, and a bunch of Tyson and Smithfield poultry and hog houses move into the valley? How about when your property over on the flats are surrounded with hog houses? How great will it be then? You think they will care when the air is so foul nobody can stand to live there anymore and all the millionaires and billionaires take their money out of there leaving you with worthless property that you no longer want to live on and can't sell?

Interesting outlook on Wyoming...

When I was looking into law school (never went) I considered moving to WY, law school out there was 5K a year. Crappiest law school out here was at least 25K. :D

Sure they do. But when you have 2 consumer products and the other companies have dozens, you have to make money somehow. Apparently Colt couldn't survive on the consumer sales

Nope, mother put all their eggs in one basket, and FN took a flame thrower to it. Moral, never bring a gun to a flamethrower fight.

Well, that could be for a lot of reasons, not lack of market. As I said, they have been misnanaged for years. Like some automotive companies, they are not structured properly, and have extreme union pension, and benefits committments.

Not surprised since Obama took all the guns away.
It was only a matter of time.

Your joking I hope. If not your way off base. Under Obama, gun sales sky rocketed! the gomers were afraid " that feller I'd take their guns away from um. " Gun manufacturers, airplane manufacturers, jet engine manuf. on and on, all depend on government contracts. And no.....they usually do not go overseas for obvious security reasons.

I'm pretty sure once he was elected, he outlawed guns. I haven't followed the news much since his election win because I don't believe the liberal media. I've got no use for news now. I have been hunkered down in a bunker waiting for his term to end.

They said he was going to take the guns, then force all the straight be people to be gay. Then there was that GD insurance plan that allowed kids to stay on their parents plan longer which bankrupted the world right after forcing everyone to convert to Islam.

Nope, I am staying down here with my guns away from the gay muslim population that is no doubt in control at this point going door to door collecting the rest of the guns.

If anyone needs me, I will be hiding in this hole having a tea party.

Come up for air man, none of that happened. But you got Hillary's platform down perfect.:D

I have a 1921 colt woodsman 6.5" barrel .22 this is the best built hand gun I've ever owned.

I am from Texas. That has to have happened just the way I described.
You are trying to trick me to get me out from my hole so you can take my guns away and force me to smoke pot. Without my guns, I am nothing.

Dam hippie Liberal.

Pot is better than guns, you'll understand when you get to reeducation camp Massachusetts.

Shot a rock island once - the gun felt loose and sloppy, like the parts didn't fit right. That might have been the individual gun.

I own 3 Rock Islands ... Compact (Officers Model), Standard and Ultra Match 6" ... they shoot as well as the 1911 National Match the Navy issued me to shoot competition with.

Wanna bet that executive and management compensation packages out weigh all the union production employee expenses? Last CEO gets over three quarters of a million pension, damned unions...

He hasn't succeeded yet but not for lack of trying. If you can't ban guns, make it impossible for people to buy ammunition. How? Just have ATF make a rule and don't publicize it.

OTOH, he sure has helped gun manufacturers make money. People keep stocking up on guns and ammo.

What's climbnsink gonna do to fend off a bad guy with pot; blow smoke in his face?

If we gave all the bad guys pot, they'd be happier, lazier not so bad guys.

C-Suite salary and pension for 2013 was $3.1 MM.

According to their SEC 10-K filing, 72% of the workforce is union, UAW specifically. They list $22.6 MM in long-term and current pension liabilities. Can't tease out union payroll, but $22.6 MM > $3.1 MM... How much was the bet? And was that in Federal Reserve Notes or sharia-approved currency?

I just gave top execs, no management costs. As you can see, nobody at Colt would compromise on anything, so they are screwed.

There will never be one single firearms manufacturer, just like McDonalds can't ever kill all of the other fast food joints on the planet. There is no "one winner, everyone else loses" because customers and Markets are fickle.

According to Demolition Man, the one winner will be Taco Bell. :D

With the drought and water shortages getting worse, I bet somebody could go out West, specialize in water rights law, and make a lot of money over the next 20 years (if not more).

That might make somebody a multi-millionaire. But want to be the next multi-Billionaire (with a B )? Invent and patent a process to desalinate seawater without the enormous energy requirements of current desalinization plants. Then figure out a (relatively) efficient way to transport it throughout the western states.

With the drought getting worse and no end in sight, water is going to be the new oil.

You don't have to invent a new process. Tell people they can either have no water or deal with a nuclear power plant somewhat close by.
