Can a CFII instruct with Basicmed instead of an FAA medical?

I was told by someone that they had their IPC cancelled because the CFII allowed their Basicmed to expire.
It has since been renewed, but the question remains.
 
Yes? I gotta check nuances. But certainly can if done under vfr.

Further checking shows yes. Just can’t go higher than 18k or faster than 250 if he’s the pic of the flight. IFR is fine.

If he’s not the pic, doesn’t even need any sort of medical.

That’s about it. I’ve been instructing with BasicMed for about 6 years now. It’s actually written into the regulations. 61.23(c)(1)(vii).

Exercising the privileges of a flight instructor certificate and acting as the pilot in command or as a required flight crewmember if the flight is conducted under the conditions and limitations set forth in §61.113(i).​
