Anybody getting hired?

I'm not kidding when I say this.
Go to Oshkosh. Dress nice, bring your resume.

All the big players were out there and they all had people taking resumes.
Getting in front of someone physically is likely to do better for you than airline apps although I would do that too just because maybe you'll win the lottery.

I walked around the tent and talked to a lot of the different folks and some of them would look at your resume and say
don't give this to me go get 12 more of X-Type hours and email me your updated resume otherwise we're going to ignore it.

All of the players are different and they all want different things but they will tell you exactly what their environment is.

The benefits of doing this is afterwards you can go to SOS Brothers have a cold beer and then watch the Thunderbirds.

Probably not a bad idea to get on this website and start hitting some job fairs:

My gut tells me right now it's a lot more about getting in front of people than applying online and it feels like that in most Fields not just aviation.
I got my interview because I was able to hand my resume and a couple letters of recommendation to a human.

The short answer to your question though is the pendulum is starting to go back the right direction.
Classes at the big carriers in my area are resuming this week.
Most of the regionals in this area started classes mid December.
Cadets are being prioritized over pilots off the street.
Man that website is really good. Tons of useful info. I feel dumb not knowing about it.

My weekly update from Delta HQ showed our latest new hire class with 68 smiling faces. Still planning to hire around 500 for the year it says.

We had 47 start yesterday, and while in training last week I was told we'd be hiring well over a thousand for the year. But you know how it is - koolaid always flows highest at the schoolhouse!

I def believe you guys will hire more than us in the next couple of years. From what my other AAL buddies tell me, your big retirement years are just hitting. Our bulge already happened. We are steady at around 500-550 age 65 retirements a year for a while.

We'll see what happens - as long as the checks clear every two weeks, I'm good. Everything else is gravy. :)

Had an “anticipated” start date for a new, step-up job - quit current job, cancelled lease, packing up house, moving across the country and looking for a new home.

“anticipated start date” is now “no hiring at all until” a later date.

Rough.

I don’t particularly blame anyone. I had to pull the trigger and take a risk to be ready for the “anticipated start date”. It bit me. It is what it is. But being “homeless”and jobless with no guarantee of employment coming isn’t where I’d hoped to be at the moment.

This industry is brutal.

That officially sucks. I hope something comes through for you soon. To where have you relocated?

Mostly it's very timing dependent, which can sour folks understandably, since americans have a penchant for the myth of meritocracy.

My only dog in that fight is to add that, nobody needs a lecture about "choices" from people born on third base yapping about the industry as though they hit a triple.

Thanks. Locating out to the western states. Intentionally vague since I’m not trying to point out any particular company. It’s a tough industry.

I spent a year and a half sticking it out to avoid being an unemployed pilot looking for a job. lol life has a strange sense of humor…

How on earth do you get 500 multi if you're flying a PC12? :dunno:

Also, are you getting people for the King Airs with numbers like that? Plenty of places are putting people in the left seat of jets once they have 250 multi.
I’ve got a friend who flys for Wheels Up and I know he didn’t have anywhere near 250 multi. Got several thousand hours helo multi but not fixed wing.

Oof. So much of this is just dumb luck. Back in the day I did something similar to you - essentially upended my life for a 135 jet job - but in my case the offer held together. It could have easily gone the other way. Hope you find something soon, man.

Was he a captain?

It does seem like it's easier to get in the left seat of a turboprop than a jet with less multi time.

He was a captain flying AW139s but I believe he’s SIC now. Got 250 total FW with ATP and got hired. Not sure if employers in 135 give weight to RW hours or not. I know the airlines do. Probably half my friends did the RTAG thing.
