Alternate Missed Approach

I was wondering if you had gotten that one. You were busy at Rough River so I left you to the fun and didn't text you about it. :)
I lied. I went back and looked and we did the ILS 4, which relevant to this conversation, has it's missed based on the localizer with no alternate.

We also did the LOC 22 CTL, which also uses the LOM as a MAHP, but it's the alternate.

I must've flown the 31 with my CFII as I remember those fix names.

It is in the upper right hand box. If you are DME equipped, you go to GINIA.
Yep; stopped reading too soon. I can definitely understand the confusion.
 
Yes, but not too well. If you look at the source document for approaches with a second missed approach if a navaid is OTS (and @RussR is right; I was thinking in terms of ILS/LOC approaches), it is referred to as an "ALTERNATE" missed approach. So I'm trying to avoid using that term except for that (as I said, not too well).

Gotcha. I thought maybe you were talking about when a Controller just kinds of makes one up.

I ain't betting money on it, but I think I have seen ILS's with a reverse course miss and fly back out the Localizer to a DME Fix based on the Localizer DME. In that case, an Alternate would not be required. I think. Maybe they treat the DME as a different facility.

You are correct, an alternate would not be required in that case. And you likely have seen some like that. However, they are falling out of favor due to flyability issues - as you can probably imagine, if you have to climb to an altitude first before turning around, then given a bad combination of geometry and wind, it's possible you'll be intercepting the localizer course really close to the localizer antenna and dealing with its super sensitivity at that point.

Yeah. I guess it could depend on how brave the Flight Check pilot was:goofy: That being said, I’m still not betting money I’ve ever really seen one until I actually see one.
