    KPIE -> KFXE

    That is cool that the current thinking is to put the pilot at ease. I got an extreme case of checkoutitis back in the day and needed to do part of my ride over!

    KPIE -> KFXE

    This is my area, I have flown from KSEF to KSPG and then the other way to KFXE and have much experience around LBV. You wanted a pep talk, it is a great area to fly and you can do it!

    Luck or skill or both

    We get a lot of wind in Florida. On an early solo flight I went out with 080 @ 28 although taking off on runway 9 was doable in my 150. But Texas sure is known for a lot of wind. I am glad that you were able to bring your plane in safely. I remember wanting to fly in Atlanta and having the...

    Sigh. Police investigate suicide in Spotsylvania plane crash

    There have been at least 2 crashes in my home County where SSRIs were found in the bloodstream of the pilot. I am not sure what you mean by "risk" to the rest of us?

    Sigh. Police investigate suicide in Spotsylvania plane crash

    I am also glad he didn't go to Virginia Tech with some weapons and take out a bunch of people along with his suicide.

    Right Turn-out Approved

    I have had a controller tell me to start my turn immediately on one of those right turn clearances . My flying instructor drilled into me no turns below 400 feet (agl). But I did obey the controller and started the turn immediately.

    Dead battery

    interesting advice, to not trickle charge the dead battery. I would have thought trickle was the best chance to revive it.

    Looking for some good Aviation movies?

    anyone remember an old movie where someone comes back from the dead and tells a pilot "she likes crazy flying"? I think the dead pilot was jealous of his loves new love.

    Korean 777 Down in SFO

    I agree with you. There is some talk about suing Boeing, but you are right it is amazing that the plane did so well. All the facts aren't in but at this point Boeing looks like the hero not the zero.

    Real Men Flew the Boeing 707, 727 and the DC-8's

    My dad got his seat by spending the War in Avon Park, FL teaching cadets how to fly Stearmans

    Real Men Flew the Boeing 707, 727 and the DC-8's

    good point about the airline ticket. the deregulation with charging for peanuts, baggage, toilet paper, etc. has I guess worked in that it has kept the price of the ticket down. I remember when you could not show up for a flight and get your money back.

    Real Men Flew the Boeing 707, 727 and the DC-8's

    The 60k that a 747 Captain made in 1970 could buy a lot of things. Pay was pretty good back then. I am thinking that is equivalent to 600k today, lots of things are up 10x what they cost then.

    Real Men Flew the Boeing 707, 727 and the DC-8's

    I agree, great write up. My dad flew Pan Am from 1945 to 1980 and got to experience all that.

    thanks for pointing me in the direction of that movie China Clipper. I will have to see if I can buy it or find it on Netflix. edit: this thread just separated me from 20 bucks as I ordered China Clipper from Amazon. :)

    Looking for some good Aviation movies?

    I read the OP to say that he would prefer the War stuff but he also said that he was looking for "good" aviation movies. I hope it was ok to suggest my favorites since someone else listed Spirit of St. Louis. There is a movie I like about the China Clipper from way back but I don't know...
