Video: Cirrus SR22T IFR <200' OVC departure w/ 900' OVC approach at Class B KBWI

VFR on top (different than VFR over the top) is still an IFR clearance, but it allows you to select any VFR altitude, while still being required to maintain the standard visibility and cloud clearance minima. Well, I'd say its a GOOD thing that you have some fear of being in the soup. Or...

Video: Cirrus SR22T IFR <200' OVC departure w/ 900' OVC approach at Class B KBWI

A big thank you for sharing that! Watched all 20 something minutes of it! Few Q's: 1) What camera did you use? Gopro? 2) What video editing software? 3) On the computer you used to edit so much video, how much RAM do you have? How many Ghz is the processor? Dual or Quad core...

Dancing with clouds: HD video, stills and a write-up

    Checkride in Actual

My DPE made it clear to me on the phone as soon as I scheduled with him a week earlier that he COULD do my ride in actual if I was ok with it. Sure enough, that's exactly what we had (3500 lowering to 2000 when done!) and the ride was very relaxing, since I knew what to expect from the same...

    Got my IR wet today

Absolutely right on the money Azure!! When I first had my ticket, I wanted my first flight to be only in ceilings high enough to not need an approach, but its silly to think that because although my confidence is higher now than back then, my skills were at their best right after I passed.

Hoooo.... 8 bottles throttle.... wheee what do these buttons do?

Probably means the same as pleading not guilty, but with different phraseology.

Now THIS is the most useful comment of this entire thread!!

    User Fees

All of those things you mention are not nearly as easy as you make it out to be. That will still cost them more than what it does now with the current system.

    User Fees

Not to mention that the airlines ONLY pipeline for future pilots (GA) will dry up even faster if their user fee wish comes true. When that happens, how will they find pilots to keep their own planes moving?? Talk about extreme myopia and biting the hand that feeds them!

Legal trouble and getting private pilot license current

^THIS^ It drives me crazy that so many pilots even (let alone non-pilots) somehow think guys like this are more of a threat to society when flying solo as PIC than on the road. Hmmmm...........how frequently does a GA crash kill someone on the ground....... vs. How often do automobile...

Couple IFR videos in FIKI SR22T

As someone who LOVES to post videos in LIFR weather with ATC, all I can say is thanks for posting these!! Very well done! Isn't skimming the tops at sunset the BEST thing!!!!! IMHO, there are few thing more exciting in aviation than that. Pure gold! My perfect setup (haven't quite had...

Is General Aviation Dying in the USA?

The only place that I could see where it would make more sense to own a boat vs an airplane would be in the Bahamas (or Caribbean) where you have some of the best sandbars and beaches anywhere on the planet! Other than that, a plane makes much more sense. Again, why would it make sense to...

Is General Aviation Dying in the USA?

Yea, but in most parts of the USA, especially where I live, its is only warm enough 4 or 5 months of the year to be able to enjoy a boat.....and even during that time span, they are even more at the mercy of weather than flying a piston single. GA on the other hand can be used when its 20...

    HOLY ****

Understand! I was posting tongue-in-cheek, so sorry if it came across the wrong way. It didn't even occur to me that you did your annual off-site, but that makes perfect sense.

    HOLY ****

Being based in VT, WHY are you scheduling your annuals in June, when New England experiences some of its nicest weather? You should be doing that sometime from Dec to Mar!!!:rofl:

    HOLY ****

Steve, I don't want to be the spoiler that comes along, but you DO realize its a 3rd degree felony to post about a flight in IMC without photos or video, right????:lol: All kidding aside, I enjoyed your story very much! I just wish I could get as excited about hardcore IMC as I was...

    HOLY ****

Thanks so much for posting this! Brings back memories to late 2008 when I first got my IR. I wish it was as exciting now as your story, but fly enough in the soup, and it too loses its fun edge.

Mile High Club in actual IFR without autopilot, is it doable?

LOL! It must not count, especially since at least one former president also happens to agree:lol:
