    St. Maartin, Whose been?

Used to fly into there on a semi-regular basis. Usually just turns back to the States but occasionally we would have 24-48hr overnights. Those were a blast. Macho is definitely worth it for the airplane geeks. Plus the Sunset Bar (the one with the airline schedules on the surfboard) lets topless...

    Cost effective autopilot option?

I was wondering if anyone was going to say wife, but I’m not sure that falls under the “cost effective” requirement.

The 7 Deadly Sins of Radio Communications

I was broken from the "with you" long ago by my MEI (who was also my boss as I was a CFI at the school). He hated the phrase and would fail an engine whenever he heard you say it. First time in the plane. On climb out switching over to departure I said with you.. boom there goes the engine. No...

    Landings-to-PIC hours ratio

Between approx late 2015 and early 2017 I flew 2300hrs and logged a landing every ~72hrs. Ahhh WB life

    Suggested Tip Amounts...

On a side note any of you cheap bastards (by that I mean airline pilots) still tipping a buck for the hotel van or is $2 or more the norm? Hell some of our FAs split the tips internationally. One FA will give a buck to the hotel and another will give a buck leaving. WTF.

    That good old ‘Vacating’ topic

Of course, it's the AIM not the FAR and it says "should" not "shall" so have at it... :D

    That good old ‘Vacating’ topic

From the AIM 5−3−3. Additional Reports a. The following reports should be made to ATC or FSS facilities without a specific ATC request: 1. At all times. (a) When vacating any previously assigned altitude or flight level for a newly assigned altitude or flight level.

    Frontier Pilots Ready To Walk

Well said. The seniority system is far from perfect but it works well for this business because it prevents corner cutting in the name of career advancement or job security.

    Frontier Pilots Ready To Walk

You left out the most important one, the one backed up by the FARs. The one that gets paid a lot of money to make unpopular choices. The fact you didn’t even mention it says a lot about your philosophy about being a pilot.

    Frontier Pilots Ready To Walk

A legal plane or a safe plane? I refused a legal plane a few weeks ago. If you were like my 150 passengers you would have agreed that legal doesn’t make it safe.

    Frontier Pilots Ready To Walk

Well there are two sides to that coin. While I realize everyone on this forum makes 7 figures a year and their airplane hobbies are just the rounding errors on their yearly incomes, the professional pilots do make an ok living. I doubt there are many pilots at my joint making less than six...

    Wife is Taking the Airlines

Airline passengers are getting exactly what they want*. *willing to pay for. They yearn for the glory days of travel, but for the most part are completely unwilling to pay for it. There are different levels of service. Pony up the coin for first and make the wife happy.

    Wife is Taking the Airlines

$500 would barely cover the round trip cost of purchasing gas for driving back and forth, never mind the time savings. It’s dirt cheap for what you’re getting.

Anyone else following the young pilot in the FB groups? PPL to 777 in 3 months?

You went out of the way to tell the pilot his landing was horrible? FWIW, the first time I ever landed an A320, 757, 767, or 777 for the first time I had a full load of 130-360 passengers on each occasion. NBD.

    With You!

My multi instructor's biggest pet peeve was wasting time on the radio. If you said "with you" he'd fail an engine. I did it on my first flight checking in with dep and the engine was feathered by 500'. Some time later, while in the heat of battle during a SE sort-of partial panel NDB approach...

    New United CPP? Skip Regional?

It means you’ve been hired and are waiting on a class date. This is a pretty damn good deal for the people that get hired via the program.

Looking for experienced Boeing 737 Captains, annual salaries: $200,000 to $300,000

https://www.pilotcareercentre.com/Air-Carrier-PCC-Profile/468/Hainan-Airlines Contract jobs can be great (lots of fine print. Go read some of the propilot forums about it), but if parking your tail at a US carrier is the end goal, losing out on a seniority number at Delta or AA while flying...

Flying into/out of Dallas on American Eagle?

Congrats! Flying at the regionals was a ton of fun. She's going to have a great time. Probably more than you'd want to hear about it. :D
