Who's watching Sound of Music live?

I'm an opera fan and have several in which Audra McDonald has a starring role. She is really remarkable... and it's nice to see the pretty white world of opera showcasing someone of color. I saw most of the live SOM last night.. and I liked Carrie Underwood, I think she did a creditable job...

So, this just happened (THAT was close!)

Yeah, I had a CFI who like to liked to yank my chain occasionally... but after I figured it out, I didn't pay much mind to his BS. However, since it's bothering you, you should ask him to elaborate on what he saw.

Calling anyone near SUT (Southport, NC)

How the airport to deal with? Prevailing/Cross winds a problem with a 5/23 runway? I'm still a baby pilot and would like to know what I'm getting myself into, if i buy and hangar up there. I fly a Grumman Tiger.

    Flying book for teenager

I'd recommend: THE COMPLETE PRIVATE PILOT by Bob Gardner. (who's here on the board.) It's written in an easy-to-understand style, and it's chock full of the ideas and practical knowledge that will help her assimilate it all when she gets in the cockpit. It was my first real aviation book, and...

    Stratus2-- cell signal?

Does anyone know for sure if you can get a cell signal for an iPhone through a Stratus2? I was thinking about lost comm procedures the other day, and it seems like the Stratus, since it's wi-fi, could possibly get you a signal at 10,000 ft. Anyone know?

    What about a 2-year degree?

I don't know where you're considering going, but my brother-in-law Karl (ex-Coast Guard Commander) runs this program... and it's really great. Not to mention in a gorgeous locale. Check it out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1iHLe0vp1XU&feature=c4-overview&list=UUcBpcn1rQ25TinU5c_t7jBQ

Beginning PPL Training - "Must Haves?"

If you're on a "have to eat, too" budget as I was, check eBay for headsets... I bought a Sigtronics ANR set for $125, barely used... and the noise cancellation is really nice. As good as a Bose? Hell, no...but much more reasonable, and a great headset that will last me a while. I have a...

    A visit to the tower!

All kidding aside, what is the deal with this US citizen crap? Like you're going to take secret spy photos of their amazing US control tower technology??? I don't get it. :dunno:

    IFR tools for VFR pilots?

I haven't done much Flight Following since I was training, most of my time lately has been local. I will be doing it when I fly to TX next month, so I'll be getting in some "ear time" for sure! My comm skills are OK, I trained in a Delta airport, so not too intimidated by the radio... usually. :)

    IFR tools for VFR pilots?

This may sound strange, but I'd to hear what you IFR folks consider some of the most useful ideas that can apply to VFR flying. I'm not ready to train for IFR yet, but I do want to be a more consistent, precise flyer as I go along. Any techniques, ideas or tips that have universal value to...
