    IFR - questions

As a current IFR student (older than you, BTW) I can tell you that managing your avionics while staying on heading and altitude is no child's play. It's taken me a while to learn that I simply can't turn my eyes to the radio or GPS for more than a second or two and maintain headings accurately...

Anxious: I even cancelled my flight lesson yesterday

Hi, XCaliburGirl! I have good news. As a female learning to fly, I think we are often subject to more anxiety than the men. We are naturally wired to do well, take care of others, etc etc, and I went through many of the same emotions on my journey to my PPL. I took 20+ hours to solo, as...

Long cross country - IFR training prep

I AM in IFR training right now, and I can tell you one thing that tripped me up initially... I have an Aspen and a Garmin 650 and while I always used multiple way points on my x-c, I used the GPS magenta line for flying them. The first thing my instructor had me do was switch the Garmin to...

    MOA Question

I live in NC, where there are a lot of MOAs around. Since I always use FF during VFR flight, I've only once been (slightly) vectored around a MOA. 99% of the time, I sail through under the guidance of FF. I never even knew if they were hot or not... I figured ATC had me in their sights and...

Who's done IR and Commercial simultaneously

I'm doing my IR in my Tiger, but the flying gigs would also be in a simple aircraft-- so the complex training would be great for general knowledge, but not critical to the mission.

Who's done IR and Commercial simultaneously

or close to that? I've been getting hints that I could get some flying gigs from a local source (nothing too complicated) if I would get my commercial... it is a little tempting, as I will have all the hours required by the time I finish my IR. Has anyone done one right after the other, and...

VOR checks for Garmin before IFR flight?

OK, I understand the VOR checks I need in the preceding 30 days for my nav2 radio, but are the same checks required/apply for my Garmin 650, if I'm using that as a VOR nav instrument, as well? Maybe an obvious question, but not sure....
