I am very embarrassed to ask this but this forum is for Pilots who understand other pilots serous questions.

After a long hospital stay for cancer treatment, I am left with a colonoscopy and will have to wear a bag for several months before it can be reversed.

Altitude pressures change and I am fearful my bag will explode like a bag of potato chips.

Is there a simple method to keep the different air pressures from effecting my bag. Please no jokes, I am planning a trip soon and would really like to have some advice on this embarrassing problem.

Send me a private message if you like, but please this is a serous question.

A commercial airliner flight?

Did your doc give you any guidance?

Check with your doctor, for correct advise.

Generally colostomies are patent enough to allow equalization of gas between your bag and your colon - so just like the rest of us, you and your bag may feel bloated and distended but an explosion would be, I think, unlikely. Watch that your seal to skin (wafer) is intact.
Do not be embarrassed - it is what it is. Surgical cure we hope?

I have no advice for you other than I think you should try not to be embarrassed because honestly there is nothing to be embarrassed about, seriously. A call to your doctor's office would probably clear this up for you quickly and I'm thinking that you would be happy with the answer.

Here is some google info I found in the mean time:

Best wishes for a speedy and full recovery. No need to be embarrassed, and I wish I had the correct answer for you. You may want to speak to a doctor who is also a pilot....

Super sad Dr Bruce got run off...

Avoid gassy foods. Empty the bag before flying.. like.. immediately before boarding. You can't do anything to prevent the effects of air pressure. But you can minimize the effects of that air pressure on your colostomy bag... (not colonoscopy)..

Simethicone/beano doesn't prevent gas formation. It just helps the body expel it better. You know what foods make you gassy. Avoid them on travel days.
