What plane do I want to have 1.5 years from now?

Weird, my Comanche 250 has tips, 1205lbs of useful load and it's a Piper?

What plane do I want to have 1.5 years from now?

I was going to suggest the 601P Aerostar. In some cases it hits the 1000lbs payload with the 165gal fuel setup, 200kt cruise and over 1000nm range. The 290hp non-turbo Lycomings are very solid engines too.

    180hp 4 place EAB?

Why has nobody mentioned the Sling 4 TSi yet??? 141HP turbo, lifts 1000lbs, 145-155kt cruise on 8gph, 800NM range or greater, parachute, modern design and flies beautifully. I still cant stop thinking how this fixed gear plane can beat an older Mooney M20C or M20E model in every category, and...

    Non-WAAS 430?

I disagree, my home airport only buys you about a 100 extra feet of altitude with WAAS. A non-WAAS GPS is perfectly good for light IFR. I fly IFR and my plane is still a /A. Now a days you are getting more limited on ground base approach airports but that’s the main reason I’m installing a...

    More Piper Comanche questions!

I agree with this! I know all the Mooney’s had the same width, but the older ones do have more room up front. My best friend owns a 1966 M20C, which I have many hours in. I flew an Acclaim S a few weeks ago and got the two planes side by side. We measured the height of the cabin and the 66 M20C...

    More Piper Comanche questions!

Love my Comanche 250. I have some time in a V35B and I give a very slight nod to the BO for handling (well, landings not turbulence). I like the Comanche for everything else. It handles great, hauls 1200lbs (without weight and balance issues like a Beech), parts are not hard to find (Webco in...

    Anyone land at FFA?

Actually just looked it up, they must have changed their policy in the last few years. It does look like you can park there for 24hrs now! That would be fun! I might have to make the 5hr trip again.

    Anyone land at FFA?

It's a great airport for obvious reasons! Only thing is you can't leave a plane overnight there. You have to fly just South of there, KMQI to find an overnight spot for your plane.

    Debate: 182 vs Super Viking

I've always had a thing for the Viking. I ended up with a Comanche 250 but was also looking at Vikings as an options. I was not swayed with what people think about the wood wing. They are incredibly strong. Just get a pre-buy! If I had to choose between a Viking or a 182, I'd choose a Viking...

Bruce Willis is building an airport

He owns the ski resort just north of Fairfield, ID. I bet he just wants to turn it into a mini-Jackson Hole, WY thing??

    Dynon Certified released today

Just going off what was said at Oshkosh last year. $20k installed with everything in that 172. Did not see a list of equipment but I specifically asked about the backup instrument so I could ditch the vacuum. Just passing along what the Dynon guy told me.

    Dynon Certified released today

Dynon said that the STC does come with a D10 for the backup, included in the price. Pretty incredible deal. For once I wish my plane was less equipped so the cost delta would make sense.

    premature identification

We see three bright lines over the target that cycles for three hits, or about 15 seconds. It's just a method to draw your eyes to the target. If im busy, I might ask for an ident. I'm likely finishing up another task quickly (like go off line to coordinate) and the IDENT will be a reminder to...

    Talk Me Out of Speed

The Comanche doesn't seem to cost any more in MX than a few of my friends' Mooney aircraft. A buddy just did pucks all around and those little metal plates on top of them to the tune of a couple grand! I love all airplanes and and they all can be mx hogs, especially Complex ones. I certainly...

    Talk Me Out of Speed

How has nobody mentioned a Comanche 250 yet? Stick to the Piper stuff and you can have your cake and eat it too! I'm at least 20kts faster than your Dakota, 1200+lb useful load, bigger than the Dakota and you are already used to feeding the O-540. Flying a four cylinder aircraft isn't nearly as...

VFR Pilots on Flight Following, for the Love of God...

I'm a controller and if I sense an angry "coworker" when I'm flying, I poke the bear! hahaha, I won't ruin their day but I'll make it worse. We make too much money to sit around and be rude to pilots.....

VFR Pilots on Flight Following, for the Love of God...

"KC Center, Comanche 8-9Papa leaving 8500 for 6500". Short and sweet. They might come back and tell you about heads up traffic, or that they won't have radio coverage/radar coverage which would let you reevaluate the situation. To be honest, all you WANT to hear is "maintain VFR", just means...

Checked out in a Cardinal - Fun!

Love the Cardinals! Saw an RG a few days ago leaving KIXD (there's one for rent out there). My buddy and I were talking about how nice the 177 looks for a high wing. We instantly were comparing the Cessna to his Mooney and my Piper for the rest of the car ride.

VFR Pilots on Flight Following, for the Love of God...

I also say when I'm changing altitudes too. Whether it annoys the controller or not doesn't bother me. In my airspace, you could be flying west at 8500 but if you drop down to 6500 for whatever reason, It puts you into an approach control. To the pilot, this does not matter because you have done...
