Bought one. Then I quit looking. Saves all kinds of time.

Off-airport (or off runway) emergency landing experiences - please share

I got a pretty good reality check in a Cub on floats a month ago - my first time flying it. 500 agl on takeoff I noted no oil pressure, and got to shuffle through my "waddamIgonnado" for 10-15 seconds, heart pounding - before realizing I hadn't turned the instrument power switch on. I learned...

Journey of a Lifetime; this Vlad dude and his RV are awesome!

He's got me hella inspired - I've mapped out a similar route including Mexico and Cuba, slowly letting it percolate and researching.

    Cessna Unscheduled Landing in MT

Hmmm. I think Montana and Alaska are the two states that allow road landings (and takeoffs.)

    Stressful Flight

@mulligan , ha. thanks for asking. I posted it to the board . Two days later, I flew IFR on top then did a short descent through a marine layer to land, easy peasy. but the nighttime IFR spooked me.

Buying a plane and instructing....? What do you think?

Here's another idea, too. I had the thought to do one-day trips with two pilots (licensed or students) where one flies out, the other back doing things like the Hudson Bravo exclusion, international flights to Canada, several Class Cs in one day with taxi and clearance calls, and class Bravo...

Buying a plane and instructing....? What do you think?

I'm also a weekend warrior, with a day job. I'm having big trouble keeping up with the demand -so much so that I've teamed up with another CFI to split the load. Hardest part for me is having to let students go because I'm not home enough. Run the numbers, then buy the plane. If a 150 fits...

Im like a kid with a new toy!!

Another voice in favor of absolute focus at the FAF in IFR, regardless of who's sitting beside you or what bird you're flying. @mulligan , we all have friends who have died in little planes, and you have a handful of pilots on this thread who are worried that you're over complacent. Please hear...

Flying on Oxygen - Talking to ATC

...and cannula uses less oxygen. If you go that way, try it out before the flight to see how you'll wear it in relation to your headset.

    60,500' & 20kts

I zoomed all the way out. It's a sweet image - the thousands of jets and their frantic Mach-speed beelines around the planet, and the lazy meandering of a balloon waaaay up there, just poking along all alone over the open Pacific at 22 kts.

    Stressful Flight

@TylerSC , good job on the ADM. Sounds like a pile of good decisions followed by strong analysis of the factors involved. I'm a 400-hr CFI, and I hit an edge two weeks ago that caused me to rapidly make many critical decisions. We all do, it's how you deal with it that counts. In this case...

    Might Get Lucky...

@TRocket , I had this conversation recently with a KingAir 135 driver - his insurance company allows him to train SICs that are then greenlighted for that insurance (smaller bird, no type rating required.) I know another private pilot who got loads of right seat KingAir time that he couldn't...
