    Cheap 100LL at Cable!

Sweet, the gas at Corona used to be some of the cheapest around but has been slowing climbing. Maybe I'll stop by next Saturday for breakfast or lunch.

So did you make the flight?

Deer Valley (KDVT) to Oceanside (KOKB) - which route?

Or stop short in French Valley (F70) and have breakfast while you wait for it to clear if needed. It's a nice little airport with a nice restaurant on the field.

Deer Valley (KDVT) to Oceanside (KOKB) - which route?

Windy.com is great for forecasting and is fairly accurate. I'm not sure where they are pulling their data from but I have been referencing it for the past year and have been impressed. You can also click an airport and it will give you METAR history as well as the TAF if the airport has one and...

Deer Valley (KDVT) to Oceanside (KOKB) - which route?

Winds are forecast to be fairly light Saturday, only around 3-5 knots at 5,000' and 10-15 knots at 10,000'. It should be a fairly smooth ride whether you go through the Banning Pass or south over the hills near Julian. You could go one route there and the other route back just to see some...

Deer Valley (KDVT) to Oceanside (KOKB) - which route?

Sightseeing along the coast is fun too. One the way back from breakfast in Camarillo we went along Malibu and Pacific Pallisades, transited through KSMO's airspace, and then stayed under the Bravo shelf for some turns over downtown LA, fun times. As you said, there are a lot of ways around...

Deer Valley (KDVT) to Oceanside (KOKB) - which route?

If you depart Oceanside and head east towards DEGLE, then north over Temecula and Hemet before turning east through the Banning Pass it will be simple without circling to climb. I would be more worried about getting bounced around over the hills near Julian than through the pass. That being said...

Deer Valley (KDVT) to Oceanside (KOKB) - which route?

When the Santa Ana's are forecast I don't look at PIREPS, I just don't fly. We get some wicked nasty stuff at KAJO where my plane is at the east end of Santa Ana Canyon when they are blowing. One of my favorite sites for getting a big picture of the winds is https://www.windy.com

    Mixture Leaning

Follow what you have been taught. GUMPS Gas (Fullest Tank) Undercarriage (Gear Down) Mixture (Full rich in preparation for a go around) Prop (No worries with Fixed Pitch) Seatbelts (Fastened and tight)

Deer Valley (KDVT) to Oceanside (KOKB) - which route?

Any particular reason you are going to KOKB instead of KCRQ? Palomar has a nice restaurant on the field with reasonable prices, although they only have 5 transient parking places now so if those are full it's a $20 ramp fee to park at the FBO and go to the restaurant. If the coast is socked in...

Deer Valley (KDVT) to Oceanside (KOKB) - which route?

Banning Pass really isn't bad, even if it is windy. You might get bounced around a little but most likely not too bad. I've flown it a number of times on regular trips from SoCal to Phoenix. Last time coming back to SoCal my ground speed at 8,500' dropped to 115 mph just East of the pass (my...

first XC after PPL - weather diversion, VFR on Top and ADM

I think it was good decision making on your part. Thanks for sharing. Well done, as people say, "Better to be down here wishing you were up there, than up there wishing you were down here."

    Shortest strip you've flown from

My shortest is a lot longer than some of yours. Oceano Airport (L52) 2,325 x 50 and easily rolled off at the taxiway at about 1,800' in my Mooney.

    Window Tint Made Easy

I had put tint on the front windows this time but decided to take it off. While I could see out, even at night, it made things a little hazy, which I didn't like. I went back to having just a strip across the top of the window to help with the sun coming in which doesn't affect my view. I also...

    Am I Too Cautious?

Too cautious, maybe, but if you don't feel comfortable then I would say it was a good decision. When you feel uncomfortable I think you are more susceptible to making mistakes. The 3,000' runway is way more than enough for your Mooney. I am based a a 3,200x60 runway and if I'm right on my...
