New 56 year old beginning pilot.....

52 years young here. Started last August. I am prepping for my checkride right now. First few times out I was thinking "I will never get this radio stuff down". I am training out of KBHM. Class C towered airport. It gets busy at times with a lot of ATC chatter. I am fairly comfortable on the...

ATC "you're #2 behind an Embraer" but we were cleared on different runways?

On my approach Saturday. ATC said you are #2 clear to land runway 18. I responded #1 in sight landing on runway 24. He replied "you are #2 for the intersection. Roger!

    Time to schedule checkride?

I could write almost the same post for me. My CFI told me yesterday, time to start our Checkride prep. He keeps telling me to work on soft and short field landings when I go out on my own. Hell I'm to busy working on landing period. I am no longer nervous or scared of landing but I still need a...

    Ad valorem tax?

Can't believe I didn't do the research on this before my purchase. Ad Valorem tax is 20% in Alabama:yikes:. Does everyone pay this? I didn't finance so I guess I could ignore it awhile. But me thinks that's a bad idea!

    Am I the only one?

Ha Ha! I actually expected the first response to be. "Yes, yes you are".

    Am I the only one?

Great advice by all. Thanks! I was landing the 172 fairly well before I moved to the 182. The 182 does require a good bit more rudder play and tends to want to float a lot more. Most of you are correct in stating possible mistakes. Not enough rudder, to aggressive flair etc. I'm getting there...

    Am I the only one?

Thanks for the support! Sounds like I need to just keep pounding them out. My CFI is good. We have tried 20 degree flaps instead of full. A little more speed on glide etc. I have settled on a little faster glide and full flap landing. I seam to have more control this way. This plane tends to yaw...

Passed my written test today. Not proud of the score. The key word is passed! As an added bonus. I also went out and Soloed MY 182R for the first time. I had previously soloed in a 172. Today was the first in the Skylane. I had to do two go arounds before I nailed the 3rd one. I was...
