The Next Big Thing In General Aviation

I do not think it is a coincidence that Spirit and Allegiant are doing as well as they are considering the state of the economy over the time period in which this has occurred. I suspect their popularity will go away as the economy strengths and people have the confidence and ability to buy...

Vague feeling of unease when > 9000. Not related to O2

I find the feeling intensifies if at night.

    20 years ago today

There is a lot to learn from past mistakes. Feel like current aviation education does not reference past mistakes enough.

Logging IFR during moonless Night VFR

Thanks Ron. I was gonna call and see what the best way to get it is. I will write them.

Logging IFR during moonless Night VFR

Thank you Mark. This will have to do until I can find something from the FAA.

Reviews needed for a/c rental and instructor at Republic Airport (KFRG)

Having done my fair share of Hudson tours out of FRG, these are the tips: - FRG can get REALLY busy. Be very careful about the times you choose or you will end up spending 1.0 on the ground. Yesterday I called tower at the south shore of Long Island and didn't get a turn to base until I...

Anyone been able to find this letter on the FAA site? Looking for a reputable source I can reference.

    Video - Bob Hoover

This guy is perhaps the greatest inspiration to fly I have ever gotten from a person I didn't know. How wonderful it would be to have the pleasure and honor of flying with such a legendary aviator.

    Malaysian Airliner missing?

If it is some sort of conspiracy then the one I'd be buying is some agency trying to scare us all into increasing its funding and increasing it's surveillance authority.

    Malaysian Airliner missing?

I'm fairly certain it does. I know 100% the 767 series allows it. I am not 100% sure on the 777 but I'm sure Art can confirm. I am fairly certain the MCP on the 777 will allow you to enter an altitude above the service ceiling. Why would someone enter 450 into the FMC? Could be an error but I...

    Malaysian Airliner missing?

In a descent more than a climb yes. Even then it is not incredibly off. +/-1000 ft to 2000 ft max I would say. The airspeed +/- 20. My experience is limited to simulators and cbt's but the vnav logic is the same through and I doubt there is much difference in real performance. Please correct me...

Why my almost complete pilot training is at a standstill

That would be the biggest concern for sure! Make sure the door is 100% free of ice before attempting to open it.

Why my almost complete pilot training is at a standstill

When I worked line we could get anything out with enough of this stuff.

    Malaysian Airliner missing?

I'd have to say this is highly unlikely. Why would the xpndr fail without the FMS failing? If the FMS was working then the airplane is VERY capable. It would not wander flight levels trying to find a sweet spot or anything like that. The FMS (FMC/CDU) can be programed to cross waypoints at speed...

    Malaysian Airliner missing?

I agree about the TWA800 reference. This definitely doesn't sit right. The one thing that comes to mind is that airplane that crashed into a South American mountain and was covered by a glacier and not found for decades. There are many glaciers within reach of the 777 under that fuel load...

    Malaysian Airliner missing?

Fairly certain the alert is a EICAS message such as the one depicted below. It will read CABIN ALT if the air pressure gets too low (ie cabin altitude gets too high). It will be accompanied by a master caution light also. During the cruise portion there would normally be no other advisory...

    Malaysian Airliner missing?

The situation being discussed would take someone of with a high degree of knowledge of the aircraft to pull this off. These folks would have essentially had worked for an airline. The amount of technology communicating with ground and space stations in a 777 isn't that easy to "turn off." Yea...
