I have tasted speed, and I like it

The fastest I have ever been in a plane is Mach 1.2, but it was a grey pointy plane that I didn't own.

My Cherokee was rocking 160kts groundspeed with a nice 50kt tailwind on my coast-to-coast. Made me very happy. Cherokee is stronk! Stronk like tank. Flies fast on chocolate bar wing!
 
Headed home from Oshkosh one year in the RV-10 we saw 200 KTAS (going slightly downhill) plus another 35 knots of tailwind. I was pretty impressed that an airplane I built in my garage could carry 4 people that fast...
 
What is 390 kts indicated, at 27000 ft, at ISA +10?
 
You are already indicating 245, so why the need to slow down lower? Are you referring to 250 below 10K?

Yes. I was restricted to 250 or below at CARTR and then of course 200 KIAS when below class Bravo and within 4 nm of the Class D airport.
 
I’m a car guy from wayback. There was a saying many years ago: “Speed costs money, how fast do you want to go?”
 
I know a guy - had a sweet SE retract, trued in the 160s all day long, but just wanted to go faster (and who doesn't?).

Got a composite hot-rod with a big turboed engine. We went from OSH to Addison (Dallas) in less than five hours. Including a languidly-conducted fuel stop (we were heavy). Could be addictive.

But, it was in a 182 that the utility of a GA plane for travel came alive, at least for my wife. We had been renting 172s for trips, but when we were in that 182, headed to Colorado, my wife said, "Hey, I can see the ground moving!" It was a nice transformation from mere fun expense for me, to something we could really use for *us*. That's why we have a Bonanza now.

Of course, after a trip in a friend's CJ3+, she asked me, "Is there absolutely, positively NO jet we can afford"? I assured her that the answer was, "yes."

There's a cessna 501 for sale for 500k with 1300hrs to HSI. But it seems you're in the wrong state (or I am)...

....try again on radar downwind. And that's after going to idle, as I needed to get the gear down before overshooting the State of Texas. Lol. I'd show ya the 500'Agl version but ADSB doesn't pick me up (twofer!) in the canyons surrounding Big Bend National.....

500K is a "deal" But a 501 in a less than optimal year can cost you another 500K to run. That is why they are so cheap. You usually get what you pay for.
 
I routinely fly with headwinds both ways, so I have no idea what y’all are talking about.
 
Don't know much about tailwinds, but in Wichita when I was practicing slow flight, we were headed into the wind and we were either hovering or slowly moving backwards.

Cruised between 150-160 kts
Cracked 200 mph :)
188 kts on descent
Had to plan my descent WAY out (for me) due to ground speed
Cheaper than typical due to speed

Maybe the thrill will wear off and I’ll keep my trusty 182…instead of thinking Mooney, RV, or Bo…I will NOT browse Controller tonight in bed.

I did feel guilty flying over all of the FBOs and small towns that were waiting for my money to support their economy.
In the interest of staying on the “let’s get new things” train, if you would like a new shop for all of your avionics needs, give me a shout. I’m in Alabama, new to the company and the company is new to the location. So while other shops are backlogged with Garmin installs, we are a Garmin dealer with a wide open schedule currently.

Don't know much about tailwinds, but in Wichita when I was practicing slow flight, we were headed into the wind and we were either hovering or slowly moving backwards.
I flew backwards two times. Once over Arizona in a T-37 about FL 200, and once over Topeka, Kansas in a C-130 at night, low altitude. It was weird seeing the lights of the city moving away from us.

I got to 1.3, but that was when they were white and shiny.
 
I'm waiting for an astronaut to show up and say that they've hit mach 8 during a launch. Haha!

I think they get much higher mach during reentry.
 
I remember riding as self-loading cargo on a pressurized mailing tube across the Pacific one time. The indicated airspeed was 550 MPH and the tail wind at altitude was 200 MPH. If ground speed had been airspeed (darn it, it wasn't!!!) we would have been supersonic. Oh well...

Sounds like me when driving on I-80 across southern Wyoming. I swear I could get off on an overpass and reverse course and still have a headwind.
