Lets make Friday 'Joke Day'!

Speaking of filing cabinets... upon his departure, a coworker left this sign on one of the drawers in his cubicle:

I always liked his sense of humor.

It was inconclusive, because the men greatly exaggerated things on the registration forms.

I confess to being uncertain what the joke is….

CLIF bars (energy/protein bars) have a picture of a rock climber-and part of a rock- on them. The picture matches up a real world rock with the picture on the label. Ergo, "They found it"

thank you.

I've never even seen a CLIF bar. I guess I lead a sheltered life. (I don't watch commercials... fastforward ...)

I like the retriever cat. Related story....

For the record, I am not a cat person and neither was my friend in question. However, I was once visiting him after getting remarried and noticed a cat on the premises!!! I said, "John, why in the hell do you have a live cat in your yard?" He said it was his new bride's cat...and he tolerates it because it has redeeming qualities. He said to "Watch this" and proceeds to pull out a bolt action .22 LR and chambered up a CB cap. He then walks around the house, cat in tow, and finds a squirrel up in one of the oaks. He dispatches the squirrel with one shot and immediately the cat jumps on top of the fence, up on to the neighbor's roof, fetches the dead squirrel and drops it at his feet. I was simply amazed and had great respect for that cat. Disclaimer- the neighborhood, in the metro New Orleans area, was overrun with squirrels and the homeowners had huge problems with squirrels eating through soffits and living in attics causing great damage. Jefferson Parish deputies were aware of the problem and looked the other way when homeowners took matters in their own hands...God bless Sherriff Harry Lee.

As I hear it from some folks around here you can actually eat those things (squirrel that is) but I've never been that hungry. Looks to much like a rat with a bushy tail to me ... :nono:

The Friday before opening day of the fall Squirrel season is a 'National' holiday in Evangeline Parish. The schools are closed on Friday because the fathers were pulling the children from school so they could travel and get camp set up and be ready for Saturday morning. Most of the wives would head to New Orleans to do whatever could not be spoken of upon return. I loved squirrel hunting in my youth but, to be honest, I would rather eat beef or chicken.

Squirrels are actually pretty tasty. The standard joke is "tastes like chicken", but they don't... they taste more like a Cornish Hen.

Cook ‘em in a slow cooker with a can of undiluted Campbell’s onion soup and serve over a bed of rice. Delicious, and does NOT taste like chicken. Very lean red meat, quite tasty.

Always ate them cut up, battered and fried like chicken growing up, chewy as all get out, but pretty darn good. They were tough to skin till the highschool science teacher showed my brother the ring the back ankles, connect those cuts down the legs to the vent, then cut the tail bone but not through the tail hide, step on the tail and pull the back feet method

One of my favorite scenes in the movie “Winter’s Bone”: the big sister is showing her younger brother and sister how to hunt and clean squirrels so they could eat. They shoot one and she skins and guts it. Her little brother looks at what she’s pulling out and asks, “Do we eat those parts?” She says, “Not yet.”

My grandfather would get upset if I brought him headless cleaned squirrels; one of his pleasures was eating the brain. Of course, this was prior to discovery of the nasty little prion that causes Creutzfeldt-Jacob disease.

My grandmother was the same, I just always thought she was nutz growing up (she loved scrambled eggs and “shortbreads” ). When ever we would butcher a pig, sheep or goat she would be there (lived a mile down the road and my dad would let her know) to make sure the put down shot was at the joint of the spine to the skull instead of the customary cross point made from the eyes to the ears so she could harvest the brain. Never did try eating it but she sure seemed to go out of her way to get it, so it might be darn delicious.

I never tried “Rocky Mountain oysters” either but when I was a kid the local watering hole was always packed with people when they put on a “nut feed”..
