OMG... what torture to have to cram yourself over the spar and into that Devil's cockpit. Oh the humanity!!! I would sacrifice myself so you didn't have to endure the torture. So many haters of that airframe and misinformation abounding. I'm jealous.
haha. I'm definitely motivated to lose some weight so I can get in/out. It's very crammed. being tall doesn't help either.

EAA chapter meeting tonight; we toured Midwest Aero Restoration's shop at DNV. The BF-109 they won best in show at OSH with is still there, as well as the pictured Mustang in progress, and another project they asked us not to take pictures of....

"Dallas Doll", the P51 they won best in show with this year, just recently went home with her owner. If you're ever in the neighborhood, go in the FBO and ask to look in the shop. Considering they are one of the premier restoration shops in the country, they are remarkably approachable and happy to give shop tours. It's really fun to see these birds blown apart and see how they are built.

Working on two things today: collecting FlyMN passport stamps and knocking out my long solo commercial cross country... at 70 knots.

I was going to pitch my tent at some grass strip in Iowa and fly home tomorrow, but a super rough mag check revealed two badly fouled plugs when I stopped for fuel in Faribault, MN. Local hangar tenant helped me out big time, but the resulting delay meant I ran out of daylight and had to bed down in Prairie Du Chien, WI. You can definitely divert to worse places than the Driftless Region!

Past 2 weeks have been super busy flying. Lots of 3-5 am departures. Have flown to Alabama, FL, WV, OH, IN, IL, GA, MN, MI. 1000s of miles.
Fri I flew from IL to MN to Destin, FL to IL. 11 hrs in one days. I'm loving it.

I think my first call was "mach-whoa-kay-tuh," and then I switched to "mah-cuh-keh-tuh." I asked the guy working in their shop and I still have no idea after hearing him pronounce it.

No problem with Edina, Wayzata, Mankato, Isanti, Edina, Bde Maka Ska, Mahtomedi, or Ely.

How about Waseca? :goofy::biggrin: I think it's supposed to be "Mah-Coke-It-Ta", with the last "t" slightly elided to a duller sound close to a "d" instead, but I haven't lived there, so take it with a grain of salt!

Took a Lifeline flight today. Really enjoyed it. Passenger was a very smart and engaging young woman and we had a great conversation, mostly about airplanes and SCUBA.

Springfield, IL. The oval track and the area around it is the state fairgrounds. State Fair is this week.

So I found a place where it can ride along with me

Anyway. They aren't always as fun as this one today.

Happy National Aviation Day from KMQI

Kyle Franklin after practicing his 'drunken pilot' routine Friday night, where he harvested some soybeans in the fields surrounding our runway. We hosted a free air show at KPEX on Saturday; I camped out there and worked dawn to dusk for three days with a bunch of other volunteers to make it happen. We had ~3600 attendees and secured enough donations and local business sponsors to do it again next year. :happydance:

I think I saw you take off, visiting with my family ( arrived via ferry )!
If it was around 1:50pm, then it would have been me. There was not any activity I noted besides myself around that time. We had lunch at K.K. Fiske. My first time there but my father, who was with me and suggested Washington Is. as a destination, had travelled there with my mother via motorhome many years back.

Out for a joyride to the Mississippi river and back today

camera can't capture the colors very well, it was very scenic, lit-up clouds.

And from a few days ago, over Aurora IL.

And a rainy Chicago in the distance on the lakeshore.

yep.. more rain in the distance.

But earlier that day, the MI lakeshore w/clear skies.

And scooting under this guy which was hanging out by KAZO.
