Wrong airplane in ad

The ad designer was bad not only in selecting images, but also in spelling.

They said it was funded by a “Comittee” — that’s at the bottom of the ad.
 
Posts about errors in political ads (or almost-political ads) would result in a very long thread (just counting the posts, not the inevitable bickering)

Yep. Just someone who doesn't know any better chose an image that fit the theme, and they didn't know what they were looking at. The majority of the people who see it probably won't notice, either. Nothing to see here.
 
Hmmm, to my eye, the aircraft look like F-14 Tomcats or an F-15. The Mig-29 was copied from the F-15, so how would you tell the difference?

There are US SF units who can carry whatever they want. Many do choose the AK because the looser tolerance makes it highly reliable. At least they did 30 years ago. Or maybe it's a picture of a US soldier with an ally in Afghanistan? The guy with the rifle isn't wearing a helmet and appears to have cloth draped around his head.

The guy on the far left clearly has an M-16, one person has a shotgun. The guy in the middle, it is unclear, but neither a M-16 nor an AK.

Maybe don't be so quick to judge and try to consider that you might not have all the information you think you do?

It’s definitely a Mig 29. Wings are too fat for an F14 and the engine inlets on an F15 are more square with no fairing above them. As to the soldiers, I don’t have enough knowledge of what they carry, could be a coalition army which would explain the blend of weaponry.

Reminds me of the National Guard station across the street from my high school. For years the sign said "Join the National Guard. America At It's Best."

The English teachers at the high school had a great time with this.

Wait, that's a thing? How do I become a noted plane-shape expert? Is there a test? Who do I submit my application to, the IAoPSEs? How much does it pay? So many questions.

It was definitely a thing in WWII. They designed charts to hang on the wall. I suppose the charts were intended for anti-aircraft gunners as well as for aviators.

Oh man. Plenty of people can spot the differences right away. The 14 and 15 look nothing alike BTW.
But I can see how someone with no military aviation knowledge could make the mistake. Before I joined the military, every fighter was an F-16. In this case I really don’t care, much ado about nothing.

Maybe don't be so quick to give the benefit of the doubt when it's not deserved? Your eye is clearly wrong if you think that looks like either aircraft you mentioned, and your claim of the MiG-29 being a copy of the F-15 is completely bogus.
 
Roger that, I’ll believe everything I read on the internet and jump straight to hate. Good advice.

I wouldn't have known without reading the article. heck, I didn't even catch the AK47. BUT, if it were my job to select a picture for a campaign ad, I would have checked to make sure.

The gas block gives the AK away.


The MiG-29 has a “tunnel” down the center of the bottom of the fuselage, the intakes are below the nose, the wing profile is different, the vertical stabs are swept and canted out slightly, among other differences. Not much in common with the Eagle aside from having 2 vertical stabs and 2 engines.
