Detroit will probably be better than my overnights at 9E!Oh yeah? Well I just spent 30 hours in Detroit! Tell your old man to top THAT!

I spent 5 days in Pellston once. It was pretty cool. Went to Mackinac Island one day, drove up to the UP another day, rented a bicycle and rode around some town the next day. Bought a bunch of cherries...How about Pellston? (PLN) :wink2:

Really? People vacation in Kremmling. Well, maybe not the town, but the environs.Stayed in Detroit and stayed in Pellston...
The worst I've ever stayed, by leaps & bounds..
Kremling, CO.
OMFG.

What's wrong with Detroit? Sure, the city proper has some crappy parts, but get just out of the city and it's not the worst place in the world.
Yes sir! April 25th they're sending me to Dallas CAE for the CTP course then May 9th is my class date. Stil need like 130 more hours and about 7 more multi.Honestly, I'm yet to see any bad layover. I can't remember, have you interviewed yet or are you already with 9E?
You guys get all the more "nothern" Michigan destinations it seems these days. Quite a few places I'd probably enjoy going, but we aren't flying there right now it seems.
My most recent "best" layover was a Super Bowl flight to Oakland. Showed my new flying buddy around the area. We went to the Hyde Street Pier in San Francisco, to the beach, hiking in Redwood Regional Park and to a BBQ with my relatives during the SB. Best of all, flying in and out was easy. The reservation system must have worked.
Oh, and the Broncos won.
My worst overnights are the short ones....
It might have the potential to suck, but I have days off when they can't call, and I don't mind the unpredictability on other days. I flew less than 400 hours last year and don't think I had a stretch of overnights longer than 5 days. Most of my trips are day trips. Do you get a rental car? We do.Which is where corporate aviation has the potential to suck. Part 91 rules they can call you anytime and say "let's go". Part 135 rest times dispatch can call, if you have the duty left, and say "let's go". If not duty left they could call and say "your rest starts now. Report in 10 hours".
That can't happen with an airline.

When I flew corporate we did not get s car unless cabs were not available. I like that policy... No waiting for some darn receipt for the expense report, no worries about returning the car, and most importantly we could have beers without worrying about driving. Company did pay for cabs.
We also had hard days off. My point was about being at superbowl. They might say "you're off duty at xxxx and on reserve tomorrow at xxxx". While we were still on duty it was fair game to change that, so partying was not a player during those times. If after we went off duty, and had a large rest period scheduled, the could not call so anything was fair game.
We can decline the car but virtually no one does. As far as being at the Super Bowl, we were there from Friday afternoon to late Sunday night and were on our own to do whatever between those times.
We are very rarely "on call" when we are out of town. We usually stay on the trip with the customer when it is our own charter. If they do sell a trip within a trip, we get plenty of notice. When we are doing an owner flight they definitely don't let us sell a charter because we belong to them for that time. The good part is that it is owned by a large corporation which uses the airplane primarily for business. It's not the chariot of some flaky individual. That's awesome.... We would have been put on reserve. In addition to being called out (fairly likely with our company) it also meant subject to breath tests. Drink at you own risk....

Whether you realize it or not, everything here pertains to the pluses and minuses of an airline career.
I'm not sure exactly what you want? 25 pages of narrow answers to your specific question??

There was a time when Endicott, NY (BGM) was so bad as a layover, John Hart, who was born in Endicott NY, and the co-creator of "The Wizard of Id" cartoon, lampooned it one day by doing a series of completely blank panels, and in the last panel there is just a dialog bubble that says: "Reminds me of a weekend in Endicott, NY.).
For years, Endicott was THE IBM town and Watson Sr. a famous teetotaller, launched a campaign to buy up every gin-mill and bar in town and pave them over. He was very successful and almost made the town completely "dry".
I can't seem to find a copy of the strip, but I'll keep looking.

Read the last few pages and figure it out for yourself.
Would you leave your current Job if you had a Job Offer for a FO position at a Major Airlines?

And fwiw, I've spent quite a bit of time doing 4 day trips where I got to overnight in FNT, GRR, LAN, and whatever the Zoo's identifier is... all on the same trip!
