World map of disposable income

Is having wealth a good thing, in view of the efforts someone took to obtain it or good fortune they experienced... or punished as a bad thing, and taken away?

Being from mass. I'm doing my part in disposing of my income. Would be happy to dispose of more of my income ,if they would lower my taxes.

Weird how Switzerland is on top by almost double...
That's because Switzerland is very business friendly and has very low corporate taxes allowing companies to pay their employees more.

I know what you mean. NY disposes of quite a bite of my income.

Unless they're calling disposable income on everything that's left after taxes, I'm calling bravo sierra on this.

doesn't really show much that's relevant. For example, australians have lots of disposable income in $$ but a dollar doesn't buy much here.

Right there in the opening description:

"In this context personal disposable income refers to the income per person after all taxes have been paid."

I didn't see anywhere that considers cost of living.

Before you think Switzerland is so great, look at the cost of living there...

I think Purchasing Power Parity is the metric that allows comparison of wealth taking into account local cost of living. When I search for maps of PPP, they seem to closely resemble the OPs map.

I only have an anecdotal experience to share here, my relatives in Norway seem to make a lot of money and have a lot to spend, but when a large Pizza and four soft drinks in Norway result in a $95 bill, that goes fast. One thing though, when they come to the US, they go nuts.

When comparing this map with this one I can see some potential for opportunity

How did they manage to get data for people in Greenland but not anywhere in East Asia?

edit after visiting the homepage for that site I can see that it is suited for posting fake data, as a joke. Anyone can generate a map that shows data, real or fake, and post it for the world to see and share.

Ah, yes, the "Big Mac index"

that's about how it is here. take out chinese for our family of 4 is ~$75

My son and I make the same amount of money annually. I do pretty well. He lives in Manhattan, just above the poverty level.

I made a whopping 8 grand last year. I normally have enough disposable to go out to eat and watch a few movies with friends.

But that's only because I live in BFE Arkansas with a roommate and only eat at most twice a day. Most days I just eat one meal.

I'm LOOKING FORWARD to regional airline pay.

when we moved from illinois to australia last Jan, my employer grossed-up our pay to equalize purchasing power for taxes and cost of living. My W2 for 2014 was within a couple % of being twice that of 2013, both in USD
