Why Does a Space Launch TFR Have Wings?

There must be some logical, obvious answer to this but I can't figure it out. Seems that they would know which direction the rocket is heading.

Direction of boosters when they depart the aircraft.
 
Have to protect the area in case of a bad launch,also the area of the booster retuning to earth.
 
The logical, (perhaps not so) obvious answer is that Skyvector is displaying the TFR incorrectly. They are not drawing the arc between the 2 'wingtips.' The TFR area includes all of W-137G. Both Garmin Pilot and fltplan.com are displaying the 30 nm arc boundary of the TFR correctly.

Because they don't, and that visualization from SkyVector is wrong. If you read the NOTAM, it states it's a 30nm arc:

And the RSO = Range Safety Officer is pretty quick on hitting the red button...:yes:
 
Always read the NOTAM text to verify. As Jim said, the Skyvector visual is in error.
 
Many thanks for the clarification & very good advice to read the actual NOTAM I have to admit have gotten into the habit of just looking at Skyvector!

It's actually permanently charted correctly with the old R-areas, the TFR is just a new system overlay. Whenever things like that don't make sense, there's usually a mistake to be found.:lol:
 
And one thing Henning can expand on is the marine TFR's ( Temp Float Restrictions) too..

Boats have caused more launch scrubs then aircraft have...

I already posted ForeFlight's above...

One thing that ForeFlight and Skyvector have wrong (not sure about others) is the altitudes. The NOTAM states it's SFC-Unlimited, but they show it as SFC-99,900'. Looks like I have to postpone my my sub-orbital testflight of my JATO-powered 172...

Yea...no need for talking on the radio and definitely no use for FF or even ADSB for that matter. See and avoid should be all you need.:idea:
