Just got a new laptop it has IE9 and Chrome installed. My partner recently installed Mozilla Firefox and says it speeds things up greatly on his old Dell Laptop. He also said it eliminated a problem with loging onto GoToMyPC.com.

What are peoples opinions about the various Web Browsers? Pros and Cons?

I use FireFox because it's available on Windows, Mac, Linux/Unix. This way I don't need to learn anything new when I switch systems.

FireFox seems to keep up with the security problems a bit faster than IE.

IE 9 does not play well my my college's blackboard website. The IT types say to use IR 8 till the problem is figured out and fixed by someone somewhere. The new Firefox seems to work well so far. I like IE 9 well enough otherwise. Using both.

I prefer Firefox for most tasks, but FF4 does break some Miva sites.

Ok perhaps I should have asked the logical next question, Why is it that you prefer the browser that you use?

Pretty much Firefox for me. IE now and then and currently playing with SRWare Iron.

Just switched back to using Chrome at home again. Why? Because its fast as hell and works great.

For the very few times I run into a site that doesn't work quite right, I'll use FireFox. My other options are Konqueror (which sucks), Safari (which sucks), and IE7-9 (which all suck), depending on the machine I'm on (I run mostly Linux at home, but I have a Mac and my wife has a Windows 7 pc).

Is there a reason you use all three? Do certain ones work better for certain tasks?

Yes... I use Chrome for 'play'. I like how it syncs up across computers. I use IE for a lot of work related sites that won't work in Chrome. And I have FireFox on my work computer because IT couldn't figure out how to get a security certificate (for one of the programs I have to access) working in IE.

I use Chrome because it's fast, and it doesn't take up a third of my screen with toolbars and buttons I never use anyway. I also like that it has my favorites tied into my email address so I can pull them up anywhere.

I use and actually paid for AdMuncher because it blocks 99% of the advertising out there, including ads played before flash videos. It's also fast and works seamlessly.

I got a new Win7 laptop a few weeks ago and installed FF4. It's stupid fast and they did away with the majority of the toolbars that I never used.

We're stuck with IE7 at work. Since our work internet is so slow, I don't notice how bad IE sucks.

FF has the best balance of security, compatibility, speed, and functionality (as customized by extensions I've chosen) for what I do on the Web.

Or in other words, I guess I just like it better.

Unfortunately, FF4 screwed up the bookmarks toolbar. You can't have icons in the regular place (e.g., the home or reload icons) without icons wasting tons of space on the bookmarks toolbar.

(ok, actually you can if you get an add-on to do that - but what was the point of that change in the first place?)

They all suck. The only one that doesn't have a problem with all the websites I frequent is IE, but that's not to say it doesn't have its own problems. Currently use Firefox, but it has issues with direct PDF links if I have a somewhat slow connection.

Chrome seems fastest, even when I disable the extensions in Firefox. A few select government website don't seem to be "certified" for Chrome. Web access to my own work email account, for example. IMO that is more an issue with the truculence of the government that any issue with Chrome.

I've been taken by Chrome. On my Macbook Pro, Safari and Firefox go into memory leak hell due to flash (ads!) and out of control javascripts. Using Chrome - with flashblock - I get work done without having to go playing with a beachball.

I use FF for regular work, but am flirting with changing to Chrome - its speed is amazing.

I use Chrome on my MacBook, PC and laptop at work, and PC at home. Fast, stable, never have trouble. Extensions for Evernote, Google Voice, GMail, and AdBlock work great.

I have exactly two websites that absolutely will not work without honest-to-god IE (and cannot be spoofed). One is an intranet function at work, the other is the web interface for the dispatch center system. For that at home I have to use Parallels and IE.

The only thing IE is good for is to navigate to the firefox or chrome download page after a fresh install of Windows. I use Firefox. No issues with it, can't be bothered to change to chrome.

Firefox got sick on my 'puter, slows down & stalls. Chrome seems faster than FF ever was.

I like Firefox a lot. Used Chrome for a while when Mozilla messed up Firefox 3 early on, but once they fixed the bug, I've used Firefox ever since. I'll have to see what add-ons you can get in Chrome. I use my Firefox add-ons a lot, and find the ad-blockers very helpful.

I was a die-hard Safari user for a long time - Certain things I just got used to, especially the most-visited sites thing when opening a new window or tab, and a generally polished look and feel.

I did keep FireFox for the extremely rare occasions when I'd come across a site that didn't play nice with Safari. I think there were two. However, FireFox was just annoying to me - It technically worked, but it felt klunky and I just didn't get along with it too well, so it stayed as the "backup" browser.

Two months ago, for some reason I decided to give Chrome a try. I posted a thread about it a while ago, and since then it has become my 100% browser. It's CRAZY fast, I haven't yet come across a site that doesn't support it, and did I mention it's FAST? That makes all the difference in the world. In fact, I think everything else on my machine might be faster now since there's still resources to allocate to things besides Safari.

So, I must recommend Chrome... Give it a try, and I think you'll quickly agree.

That said, there are still some things Safari did that I still miss and I'd really like to see Chrome do. I really miss having the blue star showing that a site in my most-visited sites has been updated since I visited it. I miss the ability to quit the browser and come back to right where I was (Safari has a "Reopen all windows from last session" command). I don't like Chrome's display of tabs (you can't see the full title of the pages anywhere), and there's a couple other minor things that I can't think of right now. But in the end, Chrome won me over and I'll keep using it and hoping that they add my "missing" features in someday.

You know what, I will give it a try!

EDIT: Technically, I have used it before, but that was the beta testing release.

Keep in mind Firefox 4 was just released which is way faster than 3 was. I'd give it a shot before jumping to Chrome.

Don't know the reason, maybe above, but Firefox brings my netbook to its knees. Moved to Chrome and my netbook flys. I use browser as regular part of our business suite and Firefox simply killed my productivity. I'd been using FF for a LONG time, maybe 3 years, but in the last 6 months or so it just starting killing my performance. Removing FF has made my laptop perform like new. Really disappointed as I loved FF in the past.

It's almost always because of an extension that is installed and screwing something up.

Chrome just works a lot better for me than Firefox - It's not just the speed. There's some awfully nice features too, and it seems more polished.

I use MSIE because it's the most widely used and that's what most websites are optimized for. I usually wait to upgrade to the latest version about 2-3 months after the initial release.

Currently using Firefox 4, didn't notice that much of a difference in speed from 3. I'll still give chrome a shot though.
