I am taking my son to Nashville on Friday. He has an event and we won't be hanging out. I have never been to Nashville and have a room at the Hilton downtown (I am too embarrassed to admit what I am paying per night, must be a busy weekend).

I will be about a block away from the Country Music Hall of Fame. I am not a big music person, I enjoy it, but tend to be happy with whatever comes on the radio. I thought about flying somewhere else for a couple of days, but figured I might as well take advantage of being in Nashville.

What are the must do items while in Nashville for a couple of days?

My Bride and I did the country music tour, Nashville zoo, visited the American Pickers store, and visited south 2nd street. Plenty of places to eat drink and investigate.

We're not tremendous country music fans either but we liked the Hall of Fame and touring the Ryman. In the evenings, there's a whole slew of little music clubs (all kinds of music) right there on that street. There's Hatch Show Print (short tour but interesting). If you're into guitars, the Gibson factory/restoration facility is fun.

We did go out to Opryland and see a Grand Ol' Opry taping. If you are driving, you can go out to the Hermitage (Michael Jackson's home) or Cheekwood (very nice outdoor sculpture place).

2nd Avenue and Broadway for bars with good live music.
Ryman is close to your hotel on 4th St and Broadway or thereabouts I think.
Opryland hotel is something to see with fountains and boat ride under roof. it is right next door to the new grand old opry. I think you can catch a boat taxi to it from where Broadway meets the river.

I hear they might have a hockey team that is doing rather well at the moment.

If you like island food Jamaicaway Restaurant is pretty good.

I've lived in Nashville since 1991. Lots to do downtown. Lots of live music and places to eat. If you aren't renting a car, Uber and Lyft are everywhere.

Here are some links to consider.

http://www.nashvillesounds.com (AAA Baseball downtown. Just starting their third season in their new park)
http://generaljackson.com/ (Riverboat lunch/dinner cruise with show on the Cumberland)
http://thehermitage.com/ (Home of Andrew Jackson, now a museum. I live just a couple of miles from the property)
http://www.theprintersalley.com/ (Bars/clubs downtown--you didn't say how old your son is)
https://chinalightsnashvilletn.com/ (Touring show in Nashville right now. Looks interesting)
http://tnstateparks.com/parks/about/bicentennial-mall (Nice park to walk around behind the Capital building)
http://www.nashville.gov/Parks-and-Recreation/Parthenon.aspx (Well, we are the Athens of the South)
http://www.johnnycashmuseum.com/ (It's right downtown)
http://googoo.com/find/downtown-nashville/ (Nashville's own candy, right across from the Johnny Cash Museum)
https://ryman.com/
https://www.lanemotormuseum.org/ (A car museum)
https://cheekwood.org/
http://bellemeadeplantation.com/
http://www.belmontmansion.com/
http://studiob.org/
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaylord_Opryland_Resort_&_Convention_Center (Huge atriums to stroll through)
http://radnorlake.org/ (Great park for a walk or hike)

Okay, so if you end up being bored, it wasn't my fault!

Wow, thanks for all the detail, and yes I can't blame you if I am bored!

Also, Nashville will always cost that much a night to stay anywhere even close to Broadway/downtown. I've been on a weekend and on a Sunday night, still very expensive hotels so don't be bothered much by it.

If you love live music, you can find anything, not just country music. Try out "The Country" at 110 28th Ave N on a Friday night to get an interesting variety!

Being a music town even the hotel bars have a very good band playing. Just so much musical talent that goes there in hopes of hitting the big time. Charlie Daniels has a store or something there. It was pretty interesting if it's still there. Grand Old Opry is cool because you never know who might in and play a couple of tunes. And yeah, their hockey team is trying to win a Cup and they're down one game, game two tonight.

I am back, thanks for all the advice. I stayed downtown and checked out the bars and some of the museums. RCA Studio B tour was my favorite thing I did. Lots of great food, good flight in and out.

Thanks again

Can you tell us more about the RCA Studio B tour? I've never been but it sounds interesting.

It was part of the country music hall of fame. We took a bus to the studio. This is where over 35k songs were recorded. 200 by Elvis, and many other big names from that era. Actually get to go into the studio where all the recordings took place. Still have instruments that were used on many records. Floor, walls, lights, etc all still original.

Pretty cool.

If you're flying in GA John Tune is great. Last time I flew on there I met Derks Bentley on the ramp headed towards his citation mustang. Definitely had to fight the urge to ask if he was getting drunk on his plane.

owntown Nashville and the Vandy area rival Manhattan for hotel pricing. I visit Nashville frequently, and have found that the airport area is the only place to catch a deal, but it is quite far from downtown.

Did he finally trade up from the Cirrus?
Side note: I thought his show at Oshkosh was the best headliner they have had in years, and it was certainly the best attended in years, as well.
