I received a wonderful (and undeserved!) gift certificate from a very kind friend for use at Sporty's, what would you buy? Do they have an online catalog? Its a couple hundred. :D
Thanks.

yes on the online catalog. i don't know if they carry em. but i got a headband flashlight for christmas that is awesome. Of course you look like a miner (doofus) but that stopped bothering me a long time ago.

Instead of ordering from the online catalog, I generally prefer the paper version. It's easier to get a look at what all they have, IMHO, unless you have something specific in mind. The catalog is free, and they get it to you quick.

Depends on what you don't already have. For example, I'd put the money toward a good ANR headset if I didn't already have one. Next up would be either a handheld NAV/COM or a handheld GPS.

I would not buy a pilot specific product where a suitable substitute could be purchased for less at a dollar store, hardware store, luggage store or office supply store (ie clipboard, flashlight, kitchen timer, "flight" bag, "chart" folder or binder).

I agree. What Len said. Good headset (now, before it's too late) or a handheld NAV/COM. In fact, my last purchase from Sportys a week or so ago was a handheld NAV/COM. After flying for 16 years without that sort of backup, I thought it might be a good idea to finally get one as they have their own model on sale right now. Yeah, you get what you pay for, but if it's just for a backup, you don't need anything fancy. I bought a few accessories for it (carrying case to protect it and antenna extender).

I also bought one of those buttonless baseball caps. I'm not a big baseball cap wearer, but they are handy when flying into the sun and the little Cessna sun shield isn't big enough. The button on the top of most caps really is a pain. Just for fun, I got it embroidered with my name and tail number.

And then, after no small encouragement from my ATP husband, who has given me his beautiful leather bomber jacket (which actually isn't too big on me, as I'm tall and he isn't) because he can no longer fly, I bought some captain's epaulets. It looks cool.

Dave:

I recently, at an airport, pocketed a credit card application for Phillips Petroleum. After having submitted the application the approved status(and card) arrived within a couple weeks. About a week after the approval status arrived I received a package from Phillips. It included every variety of Sporty's catalogue.......................... and a $25.00 gift certificate(for Sporty's), courtesy of Phillips. Nice welcome, eh?
