I need some help on this one. A student asked me yesterday why the math on this W&B sample doesn’t seem to math. Admittedly, I was stumped as well.

What am I missing? We know Weight X Arm = Moment, but that doesn’t seem to be the case here. My calculation of 185x78.85=14,587.25

All of the other items seem to calculate out.

Thoughts?

I'm going to take a WAG.
Originally they intended to use a pilot+pax weight of 190.0? Because if you use 190lbs the math ties out...
Then after they did the calc they updated weights to be 185 instead without updating the moment...
Just a guess :)

Is the passenger a female? If I add 5 pounds to each person, as I was told to do it they are women who you are querying for their weight during pre-flight, I get closer to the correct moment.

Thanks, but has nothing to do with the question.

**** happens. Even in peer reviewed scientific papers.

"However, a sharp scientist did the math and found an error: multiplying 7,000 by 60 kg results in a safe level of 420,000 ng per day (instead of 42,000 ng per day, per the article), meaning that the calculated exposure was more than 10-fold less than EPA’s safe level."

It's always been OK to throw out black plastic spatulas if reasonable precautions are taken to avoid injury or damage to persons or property.

Nauga,

Here's some data to back up my hypothesis. I dug up a previous Vans worksheet where they did use 190.
My guess is they edited down to 185lbs pax/pilot wgt to be polite but, being human, forgot to update the IN-LBs.
