Water wells

My septic field is quite a distance from my well head, on the other side of the house. However, the neighbor's well head is closer to my septic field than mine is.

In Wyoming, we need a minimum of 100' from any domestic well to any septic /leach field.....

And they won't let you get away with 99' either....

I would be surprised if that is not a national standard..:dunno:

I've got a well, it's pretty deep (350 or so) for water and seven similar ones for geothermal. At least I don't have to worry about by precious bodily fluids.

Most of the house drains go to the septic system. There are a few things (condensate from the a/c, the back flows from the water softener and the iron filter) as well as the deck/roof runoffs that run out to surface distribution out in my woods. My wife wants a cistern but we've not gotten there yet.

Never realized states had such different rules on wells. Never even thought about it when I bought a property in another state. In Minnesota I know of people that put in a sandpoint well just to water their lawns.

When water is abundant, nobody worries about it. Out west, everybody worries about it. Water rights law was born out here.

Looks like the well guy is going out on Tue am and I'll have the report by Wed. We should be all set for the permit unless there's something weird.

I decided to go with this well pump http://www.nemosolar.com/ in 24VDC and use a simple solar panel to drive it. Based on what I think the depth is, I'll get about 1.4GPM which will be plenty if I get 4 hours of sun per day to fill the holding tank. All I need down is the permit, and it's a done deal.

Any idea how far down the water level is in the well casing???

PERFORMANCE: Typically 1 to 2 GPM depending on lift height (head) and operating voltage. Maximum head is rated at 230 feet. All models, the 12 Volt DC, the 24 Volt DC, and the 115 Volt AC/DC, have the same performance characteristics and GPM delivery rates.

The bore hole is 115' and the last measurement is about a year old and was at 88'. It's been fairly dry there so I'm ok with anything around 100'.

I've got septic in the front yard and a well in the backyard. I have city water for the house, but use the well for outdoor watering. I've never pulled off the cap, but from my understanding most water wells in this part of the state are rarely more than 50-75' deep. It wouldn't surprise me if my well we less than 50' due to me being within a mile of a major river. The well came with the house, and all components are placed below ground level in a paved/bricked pit. I'm not too concerned about the permitting as there's not a whole lot of water well legislation to contend with in eastern OK.

When I closed on my place in Taos I made sure I had all of the surface water rights, well permit, septic, etc. in my name before I signed. It was a real PITA some of the stuff was 3-4 owners back. In our area water rights and permits are VERY important especially if you have productive acreage like in my case. Going forward I am sure the demand for water will create a lot of fighting, we are already seeing some of it.

I hope you get it all worked out.
