Flights into known icing: just had one of those this morning when I stepped out of the house.

The porch was clear, the sidewalk was clear, the 10 steps down to the driveway? Uh, not so clear. As my foot was coming down, my brain was screaming "STOP!" and then "Oh crap! This is gonna hurt!" (and it did) ... I launched into known icing and made 3 touch and goes down the steps on my butt, elbow and hands.

Don't think anything's broken but I'm going to be a nice technicolor shade of greens and purples tomorrow!

My butt cheeks hurts too much to even consider seeing my chiropractor for a while.

Why don't they pad those steps/sidewalks!?!?
Sorry to hear it Greg, "GWS".

Ouch! Sorry to hear that, Greg. The way my car windshield was icing up on my drive into work this morning, I knew that this was going to be my first trip to the deice pad this season. Welcome to winter...

Another great straight line. Who can come up with the best punch line?

Flight of stairs into known icing

Just like a power-on stall: "Feet on the horizon..."

Reminds me of the time I stepped on what looked like a blob of snow but was in fact a rock-hard blob of ice- sprained my ankle but good. My foot turned black and swelled up so much I almost had to cut my boot off. Winter- you gotta love it.

I assume you weren't properly equipped for FIKI? Were your boots certified, or merely to be used for ice evasion?

Sorry to hear it Greg. Been there, done that. Gravity works. That which does not kill us makes us stronger. Yada yada.

In San Antonio, I had the problem of wet algae that would grow on some of the sidewalks back in the shady areas. You think ICE is slippery..... (!ouch!).

Seriously, I hear you. Gearing up for the same thing now that we've moved back to the east coast - and I have a sloped driveway.

Last day at work 20 years ago proved almost fatal. Dressed for success, briefcase in hand, as I bid a fond farewell to BC where I'd worked and schooled for the last 10 years, I stepped on a patch I thought was wet which turned into ICE as my left foot touched the surface. Launched into level flight just prior to a not so controlled flight into terrain. Briefcase went slightly more airborne than I, sprang open upon landing, and scattered its entire content across the campus.
Now... Getting up was a trick but not nearly as collecting 10 years worth of "stuff".
Did I mention this was at the TOP of a hill?

Ouch! Hope you're OK Greg.

Did the same thing once with a baby in my arms. How I managed to hold onto baby, and not break my back or get a concussion is a mystery for the ages.

A friend of mine slipped on ice while stepping out her back door. Fell. Hit her head. Died from her brain injury.

Be careful out there!

well, fortunately it seems that all the injury was contained to muscle and soft tissue. Feeling like a crash test dummy and looking nice and purpley-green!

That stinks Greg, hope you feel better soon and that your chiropractor can touch your butt to give you whatever relief you see him for ;) .

Lucky for me my back deck, that I walk on each day to the driveway, is even slippery in the summer if it rains a little. So I do tread carefully to my car each day. So far I have only fallen twice.
