How often do they fly? I got to see Lufthansa's Ju-52 (D-AQUI) when I was a kid, but didn't know there were others still airworthy.Went there today. Great collection of ww2 and ww1 aircraft, including a B25 and a Junkers trimotor. All of them are in flying condition.
Worth the visit....

I have several hundred photos on my computer from that place. Love that museum! At least once a month they have a historically significant speaker, then go fly the plane they were associated with. If you ever get a chance, go to the Fighter Factory down in Suffolk where they do they work on the planes. He's rebuilding a P-38, ME-26, and several others right now. They also just recently took delivery of B-17 "Chuckie."

As often as they can. As Bill said, at least every weekend during nice weather they have an organized flying event. And it's not uncommon to turn up during the week and be buzzed by a Spitfire, PBY Catalina, or P-40 as you pull into the parking lot.How often do they fly? Is that where Chuckie went? I heard somewhere in VA, but didn't know it was VA Beach.
I got to see it at the Vintage Flying Museum. I was at FTW doing my B-25 training when the word came down that Chuckie had been sold.
I'll definitely have to check it out when I get there.

Just looked it up on Google Maps....is that a huge freaking grass strip they use???FWIW, the museum is actually in Pungo, but it's near as makes no difference to Virginia Beach.

Any idea if they ever open it up for fly-ins?
They didn't have a dedicated WWI hangar last (several) time(s) I was there. They had all the WWI stuff in the hangar with the P-40, Spitfire, B-25, etc. I think they've made a lot of progress since I was there last.
I'm curious how you found out about it, Bill? It's kind of a hidden gem down on the south side of nothingness.
It is. The Virginia Beach Airport, it's called. 5,000 feet of fairly well maintained grass. I have, on several occasions, seen private aircraft land there. I'm pretty sure for their bigger events they open it up, but I have to imagine if you call and ask, they'd let you land there any time. The guy who owns the museum/Fighter Factory (yes, everything there is independently owned by one guy) is really cool, and seems pretty willing to throw open his metaphorical door for anyone who is interested. Especially if you have experience in or are flying something with a radial or V-12 engine.
Hmmm....wonder if he needs anyone for co-pilot in the B-25......I'll definitely be checking the place out when move back there this summer! The guy who owns the museum/Fighter Factory (yes, everything there is independently owned by one guy) is really cool, and seems pretty willing to throw open his metaphorical door for anyone who is interested.
