Vegas

I've probably been to Vegas 10 times or more, and only once was on purpose. The rest have been for work. Even spent a whole week there once for work, which might sound really cool....it's not...that is WAY too damn long. As others have said, the Hoover Damn is really cool, definitely take the full tour. Fremont street you need to see if you haven't. However I would not suggest walking there from the strip (Monte Carlo) in the middle of the afternoon, after consuming multiple adult beverages....not a good idea....so I have heard. Best trip to Vegas was the on purpose one, went in December a couple years back for a Brooks and Dunn with Reba concert, and went to the last night of the NFR. Awesome trip.

As someone who has seen the dam and the canyon numerous times both by foot and by air, by foot is FAR, FAR, FAR better. No comparison.
After seeing one of the best natural wonders of the world and one of the best man made wonders of the world from the ground, I would never spend money to see them by air.

Certainly understand the sterility of airborne views here, even though they can be far more spectacular than ground based. The max for me is to fly in somewhere, preferably beyond the beaten path and land -then shank it on fresh hooves. The canyon chopper mentioned sounds near ideal, except they probably don't let you walk for very long unless you pay for their time.
 
You want to definitely fly with someone who knows the area. As for the Big Ditch you also need to fly with a tour company that has the right to fly into the SFRA .

Might be cheaper to rent a 182 and instructor for a 'check out' and then simply fly around for 90 minutes. There are still a few places in the world where being a pilot saves a few hundred $$$ by not having to pay for a tour but for an aircraft rental!

If you are flying yourself to Vegas, then pick a spot and use your own airplane - and find a CFI to take you where you want to go.
 
Technically, yes, since the Canyon (the Grand One) isn't in Vegas.

Ok ok! Ready Fremont St, once is enough lol. Chopper ride was fun. Took off at the airport by West End, flew down the river between the Canyon walls for maybe 5 minutes. Landed us above the river and took pics and looked around for 20-30 minutes, then back to airport. I'll try to get some pics later. Worn out, long day.

Did you notice how deceptive the scale is down at the bottom? It looks like you can throw a rock straight across the Colorado river. I tried that, it didn't even make the near shore...
