anyone else having crashing issues on the maps page of the new foreflight?

iPad mini 4 cell, newest version of FF Pro SV US & Canada

Really wish they wouldn't push new versions till they were super ironed out, sooner wait for a feature than not be able to use 60% of the (expensive) program.

Yeah, mine has been crashing ALOT but i also have space issues on my ipad mini which is not helping. But I could usually go for about 30 mins. Now its like every 10 or less.

Not yet, but I haven't used it in the air yet. What I am trying to do right now is plan a flight. Where is "brief and file?"

Yes, I got multiple crashes yesterday while trying to flip between maps and plates. This is with an Ipad Air 2, so reasonably recent hardware. I will say, though, they've usually been pretty good about making sure the updates work reliably, so this seems to be an anomaly. I'm sure they'll have it fixed quickly.

@luvflyin , they changed the name and general process for what was File and Brief. It's now called "Flights", and at least from what I can tell, there's an extra step between briefing and filing that I'm not too thrilled about yet. Maybe there are some benefits I'm just not seeing.

Ah. Got it. Thanks

Yes. Same subscription as you. And I am running it on a current generation iPad with plenty of available memory.

I don't mind software updates that add features. I hate software updates that require re-learning the ergonomics just to do the same old things. Worse when it becomes unstable and unreliable.

9.1.1, mini 4, lots of memory. loads then immediately dies when Maps selected. Interesting that all other options appear to work just not Maps. Fortunately, I have WingX, too.

Just sent email to FF.

Shhh... the people that don't like tablets in the cockpit are going to use this as ammunition.

No paper required. What could possibly go wrong? I'm sure the backup copy of Foreflight on your phone will save the day. :)

Yeah, after that setup it was shooting fish in a barrel. :D

I'm backed up via my phone, and that's backed up with paper, so this was but an annoyance.

Same problem, though it's an ancient iPad 2. And I'm backed up with a recent iPhone 7, but wouldn't even know where to get paper charts these days. No one seems to stock them any more.

It's the paper (or other completely independent source) that's important. If you run ForeFlight on multiple devices and there's a software bug like this in ForeFlight, you don't have an independent backup. Crashes on one, crashes on the other. Two devices both running iOS is the same issue: iOS bug can take down both devices. And let's face it, those kind of bugs are all to common. I'd say ForeFlight on an iPad backed up with WingX or Garmin or any other EFB on an Android phone would could as independent backup for charts. (Or paper of course. I'm still getting paper-only for the area I live and fly-via subscription.)

But fully independent, not the technology, is the key.

I guess I am lucky, it works fine on my "outdated" miniPad, so far no crashes in the map view.

9.1.3 is out? Is that the 3rd patch within a week? Sounds like a little more testing would have helped prevent so many patches.

Now we'll see what happens on my maxiPad, I have not opened it in a week so it still has the 9.0 version on it. :)

Paper charts FTW! :D

I never thought of backing up FF with WingX or something. Anything that displays charts would do in that situation. I hate carrying paper, and you just gave me a way to never have to. Thanks!

You're welcome. Also use different family devices. iOS has plenty of bugs too.

And since all your after is a backup of the charts (not the navigation) you could use any of the free EFBs as a backup. Just be sure you know how to use it. Setting up and approach in the soup and discovering your primary is dead is a stress producing event.

Filed IFR and flew with it for two hours today, no problems.

praise the maker, the iJunk is fixed. again. for the time being.

Stay safe up there tablet people.

Just did the update, looks like it fixed the issue.

At least foreflight is fast with the updates when there is a issue

Side note, I like to stagger when I update between the iphone and iPad for just this reason.

I also deliberately stagger the download of iOS updates for similar reasons. The phone often gets delayed by a month or more.

Now that's a good idea. Thanks for the tip.
