The operative date is the time since you were released from probation or otherwise had a disposition on the case. Sexual offenses aren't on the lifetime no-no list, but the TSA won't permit you to have SIDA access (which cuts off a lot of your job opportunities) if you are within five years of that disposition on sex felonies. Of course, you also have the issue of getting the medical. The fact you were convicted isn't hte biggest issue there but the problem that your conviction may indicate that you have a psychological issue.
Of course, in every state I am aware of (even the few with ban-the-box provisions), a conviction of a felony sex offense in the past ten years is going to make you not look as good as a non-criminal applicant.
