To all of you controller's, I just purchased Arrow N33372. Is it OK to say 'Triple-three seventy two"?
I am sure that the AIM would disapprove but saying "Three-Three-Three-seven-two" gets old real quick. I was going to change the number until I found out how much the painters wanted to do that.
 
Sure. Most won't care, but there be one or two that will no doubt.

Yes, triple three seven two all day. Please avoid "triple tree"!
 
I've done this before and in most cases they called me whatever I called myself. I feel like if I called myself "dooshbag123" that they would have also.
 
I frequently call in starting with "triple 4." Only rarely do I use "four four four," and ATC has never complained. If they come back as "four four four," I'll answer like that until they shorten it.

So just chill out and relax . . . .
 
Controllers don't like saying it that way either. :D
 
Sometimes I fly a companies airplane and their tail number is N4007. I always announce as four doubleO seven and after they receive me i shorten to doubleO seven. I always like that way that sounds on the radio. So I doubt ATC will have any problems with that call sign.
 
Now all I have to do is talk like Sean Connery with that tail number and that would be even better.

It wouldn’t be a problem. I’ve heard similar ID’s many times. I’d just say ‘triple three seven two’ rather than ‘seventy two’ but that’s just my 2c.

No. But do it anyway. Much easier.
 
Thanks, everyone. Thriple three seven two, it is. I like the -007 . I hope to have it changed but right now there are more important things to do with my paltry financial reserves.
 
My Waco is also a 444. I typically use 13444 on my initial call up and then triple 4 subsequently. Never had an issue with ATC.

Yeah, but you have a Waco. Having a Waco allows you to do whatever you want.

OP is flying a Cherokee.

Not that there is anything wrong with that.

I think you'll find few objections from controllers. You could also use "Arrow three seven two".
 
We have 33354 and I always say tree tree tree five four. Never thought of triple three fifty four. And I don't shorten that one to 354. I do shorten the other plane to 84B after the first call, and I can't shorten the RV since the full tail number is only 3 characters to begin with.

I used to own Cessna Triple Nickel Echo and had no problems at all.

Go for it, worse case some uptight dude might give you some grief over it, in which case restate it 777, no biggie ether way.
 
I used to fly a C-150, 11143, and I always said "triple one four three". Controllers never had a problem with it. Always liked that one because my AMA (model airplane) number was 11431.
 
Harambe 1 ready for takeoff runway 36. I've had my plane for almost 5 months, and the controllers at TUP still have trouble with my tail #.
 
I have about 40 hours in an Arrow, N7555J. Controllers don't have a problem with triple five or triple nickle Juliet. As a controller, I wouldn't either, just easier to say. I have encountered controllers in training and I can tell who they are will say five five five because they have to until they get rated then the "cowboy phraseology" comes out.

BTW - if anyone is looking for an Arrow, its for sale in Tucson for ~35k.

Additional BTW - It isn't mine. It belongs to a friend of mine who just got hired by Horizon Airlines.

Not a big deal, but I would discourage students from any nonstandard phraseology.

It may work 99% of the time, but on a weak, scratchy radio it might be harder to make out than the standard phraseology.

I wouldn't be able to avoid saying Triple nipple.

Tree tree tree isn't that bad. Try saying niner niner niner. I have a neighbor with a tail number like that and it hurts my head when I hear him saying it.

Sure. Let’s all just ignore which parts of proper communication that get old. I’m sure it won’t make any difference if everyone does things their own way.
