Tracking your new certificate?

I feel like this was discussed earlier but my search-foo is failing me.
Since I have nothing better to do is there anyway to figure out when you'll get your new (permanent) certificate after a checkride?
I know they say it can take up to 6 months, where can I narrow that down a little.

Call Airman Records and ask them. They're actually nice and helpful.

Not 6 months, 120 days max. My last two students to take check rides had theirs in 60 days.

FAA.gov. Airman certification. Follow the menu items to look up a pilot. It will tell you they are processing records submitted on xx date. Estimate it out from there.

It's a common problem that the FSDO has no problem. In fact years ago I remember going to the GADO and they had a rubber stamp that they restamped my temporary with a new expiration date. Of course, the day I went over to renew my expiring temporary was the day the real one came in the mail.

I think my instrument permanent came right at the end of the temporary expiration as well (but even that was ten years ago, your mileage may vary).

Note, that we kick you out of the League of Temporary Airmen once that certificate expires anyhow.

Government has been off since Thanksgiving, will be back after New Years! :D

Actually the above will give you a rough idea. I renewed my CFI in August and got the hard copy in late Sep or early Oct.

And when you go to the FSDO or the DPE for an update......they call Airman Records.

Anyone can call Airman Records. They will look up your file and tell you where it is in processing, as well as verifying any information.

When I called Airman Records about the status of my certificate they were indeed quite helpful and very nice. They told me what the hold up was and where my certificate was in the process.

For that certificate I did need an extension on the temporary and ended up calling the FSDO to get it. The person I dealt with there also called Airman Records to verify everything I told her about it. Once she satisfied her curiosity she issued a new temporary without a problem.

But, one thing I'd suggest is to just be patient. If you're not running out of time yet on your temporary I wouldn't lose much sleep over not having the permanent yet. If you really want to know about where it is in the system without bothering anyone, try looking yourself up on the FAA's website and see what ratings it says you have. Or, log back into IACRA and see what the status of your application is.

My new certificates have taken about 2 months to get to my doorstep
 
Took my checkride 11 November, got my hard copy dec 31

In addition to the airmen website, you could just look it up on the database. When the new rating shows up, you know to watch the mail. It isn't more than a few days after that it arrives. If you are close to your expiration date, get it extended. If I recall, I did mine online at the FAA website.

I don't care about the card, but depending on the certificate being issued it can be nice to know what your certificate number is so you can quit endorsing everything as "pending".

If you're looking for you CFI certificate it will have the same number as your pilot certificate with CFI added.

What else would you be endorsing except for perhaps operator approved maintenance logs?

I can't say how accurate it is, but I seem to recall my last certificate showed up a couple days ahead of what I expected based on that page.

I remember checking this on a fairly regular basis when I got my temporary certificate. It was pretty close.

I can't really recall exactly, but 62 days sticks out in my head as the time it took from the checkride to getting the card in the mail.

I passed my checkride a few months before the big government shutdown in 2013. I don't remember the precise dates now but my temporary was expiring so as soon as the office re-opened I called them and they granted and mailed me an extension. I think I was on hold for a while but as soon as I got a human on the phone they were very helpful.

Everyone knows your cfi number will be the same as your certificate number but that's not what your temporary airman certificate says. :)

You may also need To endorse something if you hold a mechanic or ground instructor rating. There might be others, but those are likely the most common ones.
 
Took my check ride on November 15th and my cert got here yesterday.
