This hasn't had a lot of press today, which is surprising considering the size of the fireballs. Check out this picture:

Propane plant explosion... links to stories here:

There are lots of YouTube videos from residents to be found, as well.

I wonder if my friends house looked like that when it exploded?

She is a hot air balloon pilot and her house exploded 2 years ago.

One of my co-workers called in one day and said she couldn't work because her house blew up. I jokingly said you need to come up with a better excuse. As it turns out, her house did blow up- there was nothing left but a lot of pink insulation. The blast also took the roof of her neighbor's house around 100 yards away, and their was nothing left of her structure larger than a piece of debris around a square foot in size. Turns out she had a propane leak into her basement, and then when one of the appliances turned on the blast ignited. They luckily weren't home at the time, and a week later a similar explosion occurred and three people died. It sounds like LP can be pretty scary.

The Olympics are waaaay more important. Who cares that Russia invaded Georgia?:(

you'll think I am making this up but I was raised a few miles from there.
Back when I was about 9? (will have to ask sisters) the exact same thing happened (propane tank cooked off early in the am at that railway yard) killing at least one and waking everyone within 10 miles including my family (except me, the once-sound sleeper)

We were driving back from the Cottage (NE of Toronto) Sunday morning on the 401 about 7:00am on our way back to Chicago. We saw the overhead message boards were telling everyone that both the Express and Collector lanes were shut down West of the DVP. We wondered what the hell was going on but took the DVP north to the 407 and then headed west. We finally found a news radio station and heard what happened.

wow I haven't heard those routes for many many years, but they bring back a lot of instant memories. I was there when the 407 was still only highway 7 and parts of it were a simple 2 lane road. Whats this about message boards?! ;) And I hear they have transponder tolls too.

They never finished the 407 - it's supposed to end where 35/115 joins the 401 but actually ends currently at Brock St in Pickering, forcing all vehicles south on Brock through numerous traffic lights to the 401. I hear there's talk now of finally finishing it. When finished it will make an excellent byway around Toronto. They have those electronic message boards on the 401 now through Toronto, and yes, the 407 uses an electronic toll system similar to I-Pass or EZ pass.

Dave, you'll have to get home more often!!

jeez, next thing you know and hwy 9 will be the "409" and a "bypass around the city"!
