You guys probably already knew this, but there is a planned re-release of the original Movie Top Gun in 3D and also a sequel to the Movie.

I guess Iceman, Cougar, Merlin, Maverick and Sundown all get old, retire, fly GA aircraft and have debates on Internet Message Boards:rofl:

Good grief. It was rough enough to watch the first time around.

And are in prison for trashing airplanes due to arrogant flying and breaking every rule that exists. Except for the hot shot that kept taking his oxygen mask off every time he did something in the plane..he's at the bottom of a hole full of scrap metal after passing out.

is it supposed to be as terrible as the first?

The original would have been a WHOLE lot easier to watch if they had someone other than Kelly McGillis. What were they thinking?

Worst movie ever. Well next to "Pearl Harbor".

We all know it was totally fake, but come on it was a cool movie. It's probably one of the reasons I wanted to try flying a plane in the first place. 'I got the neeed for speeeed!' Lol even though I'm still flying piston singles..

Got you covered buddy. John Waters is doing it this time around. Divine is the love interest.

Nobody would have wanted to see someone who really looked like George "Bagger" Haering (Ned Beatty comes to mind, as does Charles Durning), upon whom Ms. McGillis' character was extremely loosely based. They also lost the yellow shooting glasses he liked to wear in flight.

In addition, it is doubtful Cougar would be in the sequel other than perhaps as a pencil pusher or supply toad at a remote NAS somewhere. The Navy doesn't take kindly or give second chances to those who turn in their wings for which the Navy spent a lot of money.

In my version, the CAG puts him on leave and after a month he wants back in the air and the CAG allows it by making him attend a seminar on Balancing Family and Work Stress.

Being #1 has it's privlidges.

Re: Bottom BBgun 2

cool movie

Only if the plane would have missed the cable when it hit the deck and mr hotshot hero he-man yanked the throttle to idle.
I was the only one in the room that said "bolter it into the drink and don't let'em get out in time!"

No that's funny right there. :D

My version has him defecting to the Soviets, and coming back in a MiG 29 to kill Maverick, but that may just be wishful thinking on my part. :)

What's the time frame? I mean we got nothing for an Su-47 except maybe some kind of UAV..

Ah, always thought it was something like capt aviation guy or maybe characteristically always grumpy

Heh. CAG = God. Don't **** off God. He and his staff will be scoring your traps and signing your fitness reports. ;)

That would fit well, since the CAG is usually an O-6 (Navy Captain).

or maybe characteristically always grumpy
A lot of CAG's are that, too.

FWIW, the term "CAG" is derived from "Commander, Air Group," which dates from the days when the collection of squadrons and detachments on the carrier were an Air Group. That was changed to an Air Wing before I was in the Navy in the 70's, but the term "CAG" stuck even when the person in charge became the Commander, Air Wing. Guess calling him (or today, maybe her) the CAW just didn't sound right.

My favorite carrier based movie is "Bridges at Toko Ri" with William Holden, and a great supporting cast, including a characteristically grumpy, but sincerely well meaning, CAG.

A second is "Flight of the Intruder" which if Ron has seen, I'd like his comments on, due to his A-6 experience.

We have over 200 aviation movies on DVD, that we have accumulated over the years for our hotel guests to check out.

I've watched them all multiple times. Top Gun, for all its flaws, is still my favorite. Nothing combines flying scenes, action, romance, and great music like Top Gun.

And, since it was voted #1 aviation movie of all time at OSH, it seems that I'm not alone in my opinion.

I, for one, am REALLY looking forward to Top Gun 2, although I fear that it will be all CG and disappointing.

If Top Gun was a 1-:vomit:, Flight of the Intruder was a :vomit::vomit:. But I understand the guys in VA-196 had a lot of fun doing the flying scenes.

Janeway said she didn't like the tradition and wanted to be called Ma'am.
Of all the captains Star Trek had, Katherine Janeway is the one I'd feel best about going into deep space with. She always put her shields up at the first hint of something not being right, and didn't hesitate to shoot.

My comment was in response to Anthony, but I must've missed your 3x explanation.

I'll be like the first movie but with UAVs.

Or a bunch of computer gamers playing MSFS and putting video's of their heroic exploits up on youtube and pretending they're real pilots.
