Wow i don't think I've seen this before, almost every station in Texas is reporting ifr this morning. This is a large piece of geography we are talking about! I can hardly see across the road (1/2 mi).
My airport is reporting clear & P6, so I can get out! Where I'd go is another matter. :D
If you look at the satellite, there is some serious pumping of moisture off the Pacific right now, and it goes from the Baja, over me, through the midwest, clear across to Long Island!

Funny thing: I did my "I'm bored while I'm driving to work, so I think I'll call up a few AWOS/ASOS" thing this morning, noticed Alpine reporting 200 & 2, and Marfa was 12,000 and lots. Wow.

But like you said- where would you go?

Sun is just comming up here in the great northwest, and it is a clear frosty morning, in the upper 20's.

anyone want to take a whack at some of this, I particularily stumble over the abbreviations:
ie Im not sure I've ever experienced an rrq of 125kts,

STRONG WARM AIR ADVECTION /WWA/ WILL CONTINUE OVER THE AREA TONIGHT
AS THE UPPER TROUGH/CLOSED LOW CONTINUES TO MOVE SLOWLY TOWARD THE
AREA. DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF LIFT THAT WILL BE SUPPLIED BY A
SHORTWAVE TROUGH EJECTING AHEAD OF THE MAIN UPPER TROUGH...THE
PROXIMITY OF THE RRQ OF A 120+ KT H25...AND THE STRONG WAA ALOFT
SOME ELEVATED INSTABILITY WILL CROP UP OVER THE CWA.

Wow! That briefing reminds me of an erudite British Lass I once went out with. After she described how she felt about me; I wasn't sure if her opinion was good or bad!!

I'm still really not sure <g>

Best,

Dave

ie Im not sure I've ever experienced an rrq of 125kts,

STRONG WARM AIR ADVECTION /WWA-Weather Watch Area/ WILL CONTINUE OVER THE AREA TONIGHT AS THE UPPER TROUGH/CLOSED LOW CONTINUES TO MOVE SLOWLY TOWARD THE AREA. DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF LIFT THAT WILL BE SUPPLIED BY A SHORTWAVE TROUGH EJECTING AHEAD OF THE MAIN UPPER TROUGH...THE PROXIMITY OF THE RRQ-Right Rear Quarter OF A 120+ KT H25...AND THE STRONG WAA-Warm Air Advection ALOFT SOME ELEVATED INSTABILITY WILL CROP UP OVER THE CWA-County Warning Area.

I don't know what H25 is, but I figure the whole thing means the weather is gonna be crappy:D

WWA: World Wake Boarding Association http://www.thewwa.com/
RRQ: Russell Reed Quartet http://www.therrq.com/
WAA: Winnipeg Airports Authority http://www.waa.ca/
CWA: Communications Workers of America http://www.cwa-union.org/

I think with the acronyms we can assume that you will not be wake boarding so you can stay home and listen to the Russell reed Quartet and plan for you flight up to the Winnipeg wondering the the FSS operators will be joining the CWA anytime soon.

I'm just hoping the ice melts off by Wed afternoon. I'm planning on driving that day. Right now there is a solid inch to two inches of ice on everything. I don't think I could get in my car if I wanted to! No prediction of sunshine until thursday.

By last night's earlier forecast, today looked to be impossible. By midnight, it was finally going to be clear by 10AM local. But, by 8.30 local it was beautiful and I was sweating half to death at 3,000 feet. The high was 71 for the official; a new record since 1972 for Atlanta. Highest reported at PDK I noticed was 23c.

I got in two flights, totaling 4.5 hours. Great fun! :)
