The Topless Thread (hope I don't get banned again)

Ah a GM man. I like. What's that first one?

My dad had a '59 Ford Galaxie Skyliner. He drove me and my sister all over Orange County in that thing in the late 1960s/early 1970s, and he delighted in attracting a crowd whenever he put the top down. The cloth top convertible variant was the Sunliner, IIRC. His was a very distinctive copper color (factory paint), and I've never seen another in that shade.

Love convertibles. I had a Chrysler LeBaron GT turbo, then a Chrysler Sebring, now a Mustang.

Looked at a BMW 328i a few years ago, but we had already just bought two other cars within 30 days; one planned for the kids and another after someone ran a red light and totaled my wife's minivan. It was another $8500 more than the 328i Coupe I bought, so I decided to pass and get the Coupe.

I owned the same model car as the red convertible in "The Last Boy Scout". It's weird watching that movie and seeing them driving -my- car.

I liked having a convertible, but I probably won't buy another. Too noisy, and the back window got brittle, cracked, and broke out.

Still, on perfect days, it was awesome.

Don't know that its my favorite... But its what I own...

They're fantastic cars. Here's mine, set up with 225 section width tires on Enkei RPF1s, coilover suspension. More fun than the Miatas I've owned. Pic is taken on the ramp at Camarillo...autocross put on by the Corvair Club on the huge extended threshold of the runway.

The MR2s always looked like a lot of fun. I've never driven one, but just the ability to get a mid-engined car at an affordable price got a big thumbs up to Toyota from me, and making it a convertible at that.

Having never owned a mid or rear engined car, that's still on the bucket list for me. Problem is getting one that's also a good performer.

I like this one better:

Gotcha didn't I? Thought this was gonna be about something else. Well it's not. So there.

What's your favorite topless car, or even truck for that matter.

I've had many but I wish I had my '60 Chev Impala 348 V8 back, like this one. Bought it from a fellow GI back in 1968 that bought a new Impala convert. He was getting out and said ya outa buy my Chevy. I had just enlisted and said I ain't got no moneyyyy man. He said all I want is what I paid for new tires. It was $60 or $80 so I bought me a Chevy, put a new top from JC Whiney on it myself, had a blast for 2 years and sold it to a guy for $200.

But probably my favorite was my Honda S2000. This thing would scoot. Size same as a Miata but 100 more HP.

Have had many others. Worse were the 3-4 British sports cars I had especially having to deal with the Lucas electrical system.

So what's yours?
Why am I searching for Smokey and the Bandit videos???

LMAO. I've owned two MGA's. Thank god I wasn't all into 'keep it original.' I had a few 'got a switch down at the hardware store and run a little wiring.' For a while I just had bare wires hanging down that I 'finger pigtailed' for ignition and lights.

Never had a MGA but that was the first sports car I rode in, and caught the bug. At the end I think my TR-6 had one headlight that worked. Definitely a day vfr car. :D

I must be in the minority, but I actually liked the TR-7 and almost bought one. I got to drive a TR-8 once. Complete blast to drive.

I'm thinking about getting another and doing a CARB-legal 2ZZ swap (Celica GT-S engine) with 180 bhp, versus the stock 1ZZ with 140 bhp. It's essentially a poor man's Lotus Elise. These third-gen MR2s are actually lighter, at 2200-ish lb., than either the first or second-gen cars. Suspension is really too soft in stock form, but lots of aftermarket solutions for that. Monkeywrench Racing built a turbo version that does mid-10s in the quarter mile!

I like the quirky stuff too. Almost bought a Triumph Stag years ago.

I am totally disillusioned by the title of this thread. I am quitting PoA forever..!!!!

Or at least until I get back from the bathroom....

Lots of really cool cars pictures, and a couple airplanes..:yesnod::yesnod::yesnod:

The TR-7 was a radical departure, looks wise. The TR-8 was an attempt to give it the performance it should have had. But... British cars.
Should I be scared that I ally so much with SAC Arrow?
SoonerAviator, that is one fantastic wedding picture! You both look utterly happy (and not a bit terrified).

Being a single guy, I am very disappointed reading this thread. I will go back doing W&B now...

From the above, love the '60 Impala 348 - was it a TurboGlide?
Love the Fiat 124 - best-looking roadster (in remotely modern era).

Here's mine. It was my daily driver when I lived in SoCal, and I let it slide after life interfered.

Getting it better day by day.

All I recall it was an automatic. I always liked the looks of a Fiat 124 but they do have maintenance problems although to the extent of the British sports cars. Also had a Miata, and the Honda S2000 mentioned, and they were virtually maintenance free other than wear and tear stuff. Both great cars.

I've got an '84 380SL sitting in the garage... on my project list. One of these days...

Last drove it about 5 years ago. Fun car.

The maintenance thing on the Fiats is a bad rap. I have had two of them. The first one for about 3 years. On that one I replaced the radiator and had the muffler welded. I have had this one for five years and did the radiator on it a few years ago (hey it is a 36 year old car), a starter and an alternator (wasn't bad, just wanted a bigger one). I also redid the rubber in the suspension a few years ago (handles better now) and I redid the interior last year.

Fix it again, Tony!
