Gotcha didn't I? Thought this was gonna be about something else. Well it's not. So there.

What's your favorite topless car, or even truck for that matter.

I've had many but I wish I had my '60 Chev Impala 348 V8 back, like this one. Bought it from a fellow GI back in 1968 that bought a new Impala convert. He was getting out and said ya outa buy my Chevy. I had just enlisted and said I ain't got no moneyyyy man. He said all I want is what I paid for new tires. It was $60 or $80 so I bought me a Chevy, put a new top from JC Whiney on it myself, had a blast for 2 years and sold it to a guy for $200.

But probably my favorite was my Honda S2000. This thing would scoot. Size same as a Miata but 100 more HP.

Have had many others. Worse were the 3-4 British sports cars I had especially having to deal with the Lucas electrical system.

So what's yours?

Oh, not topless. Oh well, still my favorite Porscha. Saw 'em race at the old long Nurburing (sp) track, something like 12 or 14 miles..

I've had some fairly quick convertibles, but once I put the top down, it just mellows me right out. That Benz has classic style and presence, I could see myself zenning along in one of those just fine. I had a '72 280SE 4.5 sedan for a while, same style, but in sedan form. It was a nice car.

Sporty? I'll ride the bike. 0-60 in 2.8 seconds, 11 flat in the quarter. Fast enough for me.

I've owned some fairly fast cars, the last one a '16 Mustang 5.0 Coyote with track pack, but in the end it was still slow and boring compared to fast bikes, so I sold it. I'm pretty much done with fast cars, bikes are so much more fun.

My aunt & uncle had a mid/late 50's Ford that had a retractable roof. It was metal, and the trunk lid opened "backwards" and the whole roof slid back into the trunk. I remember when I was a kid that I thought that was really cool. The car did have rather pronounced "hindquarters" to accept the roof, however.

Only convertible I've owned was a BMW Z4... want to say it was a 2003. First year. I did enjoy that car, although it was louder with the top up than I would've liked, and I should've gone with the more powerful engine in it. Only got the 3.0i, not the 3.0si or M Roadster.

Drove a TR3 and really enjoyed that. Had twin Webers on it, and wasn't fast but it was peppy and fun to drive. Miatas are always nifty. Would love to have an XK120 someday, or rather a replica thereof. I think the TR3 is probably my favorite that I've driven, although I always enjoy a Mustang convertible - anything with a V8 and rear wheel drive has a viscerally satisfying tone to it.

Worst convertible I've driven is any Jaguar XJ-S convertible (probably driven half a dozen or so). Things have the structural rigidity of a wet noodle.

Best convertible I've ever been passenger in? Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona. There's a picture of me riding in it somewhere - a present a friend of mine arranged with some friends of hers a bit over 20 years ago. That wins the award for the best ride I've ever gotten.

That was the "backup", though. I was supposed to get a ride in Steve McQueen's 427 Cobra that day, but it wouldn't start. Had to settle for the Ferrari.

My only convertible and current ride. It is the supercharged 2006 with a 6 speed standard transmission and it will scoot. Drives pretty much like a go-kart. Which is why it still (4 years later) puts a smile on my face.

Yeah they were produced in '57-58-59 year models.

It runs great. I have had this one for five years. It is a 1981. I had a 1979, back when I was 25. That one ran great, too. I did have to put a new starter on it last year and I went ahead and replaced the alternator, too, while I was at it.

I can't find the clip anymore, but Jeremy Clarkson once said "And Triumph replaced the TR-6, a car which everybody loved, with... the TR-7. A car that made the whole world stand up and declare as one: 'I want to buy something else.'"

Yeah I didn't understand the TR-7 at all. Beginning of the end for them. Don't forget the Stag, another one lol.

We had a TR-7 sitting at our shop back when I was a Jaguar mechanic (early 2000s). Granted it was around 30 years old, but it was a very unimpressive car.
