the road to my (your?) own LearJet

"I would challenge any one of you to a competition in the sim on any plane."

I'll take that challenge with a small twist. We do it on your little play sim, on which you may or may not be able to beat me. And then we do it in a real Lear 25, in the air not the make believe world. All you have to do is supply the plane, which should be easy to do for someone with your superior everything. My guess is that you would not be able to even keep it on the taxiway to the runway.
What do you say? I'm free this week. You can pick the airport.
D@mn it, I promised myself that I wouldn't get sucked in by this troll, but I just can't help myself. Oh well, Lance I know you could handle this by yourself, but I'll volunteer my time and sit in the right seat for you just to keep it legal. I promise I won't touch anything. I'll sit in the right seat for Larry Learjet and I promise I won't let him kill himself or me. I've flown with too many newbies in Lears to want to miss seeing this up close and personal.

Excuse me who said anything about home PC sims?

You all assume much. And you are all WRONG. So wrong it is painful.

Ever heard of SIMCOM?

Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic.
OK I'm calling you out on this one. What a maroon. Please , you're telling me you landed in a 60 knot direct crosswind in a Lear 25. Please, give it a rest.

My sources actually sent me this photo of you at the computer...

I'm done, I've got better things to do than joust with a jackass.

I suggest John Galt go ahead with his original plan.

This will get an old Lear off somebody's sales lot, and put some money in a few aviation workers pockets.

He will fail, but at least some money will change hands, which is what makes our economy go. And the money stays in aviation. Which is a good thing.

(Just joking. I know this is a total troll thread. It has been entertaining.)

It's MORON. What's with you people and your poor spelling? Yes, I have landed a Lear 25 with a 60 knot direct head wind. I had to land on the right most extreme side and managed to stop before going off the left side. Sometimes you have to make it work. You would probably try to land on the center line and that would be your fatal error.

Jackass? Now you're starting to make me angry :mad2:

Someone needs to teach you some manners.

You never watched Bugs Bunny huh? Well, that tells us your age bracket.

Ah, 60 knot headwind, now I see. Must have been one hell of a short field landing.
What I don't understand is why you would land on the right side and go off to the left when landing in a headwind. Check joystick calibration next time :D

With a 60 knot DIRECT HEAD WIND (your words), you should have been able to land and stay on the centerline.

I landed the space shuttle with a 90 knot quartering head wind in Florida during a hurricane. It was hard not being able to add any power! :mad2:

I've been known to land a lear with multlple failed systems in a sixty knot cross wind. I'd like to see some of you try that. That's right go ahead and laugh but I am the one laughing at you. Some of you get it some don't. Thanks for the social pointers gucci pilot but no thanks. What kind of places do you dance at? Gucci seriously?

I would challenge any one of you to a competition in the sim on any plane. I am naturally gifted.

And Babboona no it's not about getting babes. I don't need any help there. This is about someone who truly loves aviation and respects one of the finest private jets ever made, the early lear jets. Don't you get that? What are your credentials anyway? i'd like to hear them.
His quote said "cross wind" not head wind and that's what I'm calling him out on.

Henning, this maroon is a moron. :)

Larry, I doubt if you could ever teach me anything about flying a Learjet or manners or anything else for that matter. Just saying.

Larry Learjet is nothing but a jackass, but I must admit, he is naturally gifted at it. Oh well, let him play his sophomoric game.

You too?

I thought I was the only one to do that. Mine was at night on a 3000 foot grass strip. Was that the way you did it too?

When I did it, we did it partial panel. I guess I must be naturally gifted too. Mama would be proud.

Then, another time I landed the space shuttle on an aircraft carrier due to a coordination screw up in Houston.

What you really need to worry about is if John Galt would be proud you too.

After all, we all want to be like him, do we not?;)

Heavens no, I'd rather be like the cowboys on this forum that have both the hat AND the cattle. Our friend Larry Learjet is simply a legend in his own mind.

I can't believe I've allowed myself to be sucked into this farce.

Yet sucked you have been.

This is JGs plan. He's a genius.

Yes, he's very gifted that way. Oh well, I've had a few days off and this has been a humorous diversion. I'm sure Little Larry Learjet will find himself occupied once school starts back up in a couple of weeks. That will be a good thing.

For me two is better than one

I enjoyed the laughs but I want to say something to John!

If this is something that you have a burning desire to do. Go out there and do it, prove it to those who say it can't be done.

All of the pilots on this forum started with a desire and a dream to become a pilot and then they did something about it, you have to do the same.

A dream can come true as long as you are willing, dedicated and able to put the time and effort into it's accomplishment.

So go out there and find a way to get it done!

Yep, go for it and have fun, it's only money. The cheapest way is to buy one that is legal to fly, fly it until it's not legal anymore, then salvage/scrap it out. You'll have some fun for awhile without letting it eat you. Then you can move on to something a bit more efficient and practical. I like the Swearingen SJ-30. Single pilot, light and fast with the legs to get across the Pacific.

Well finally you have come around. That wasn't so difficult was it now? Admitting you're wrong is so hard for some people. I'm glad to see you're not one of them.

I said head wind? I need to proof read my stuff more.

Although talking about head winds of that size I be the majority of you would lose it taxiing off the runway. You need to remember to fly the plane all the way to the gate. :nono: You're welcome.

You do realize, I hope, that fantasizing something in your head does not count. That is just mental masturbation.

 Where did I ever say not to do it? I was the person pointing out the best way to go about it, although I do believe I pointed out it was a poor economic choice. However if it's an esoteric choice and you can throw away half a million dollars to fly around for a year and to do something that makes you happy, go for it.

Speaking of mental masturbation...

I'd like to get my own LearJet and fly it. My preferred budget for this is $600k.

I am not a pilot, but I am very interested in flying my own jet and look forward to pilot training. I don't think I have to explain that on this forum right?

I am well aware that the budget of $600k puts me into late 60's to mid 70's used jets with likely maintenance/upgrade/inspection/overhaul costs in the $50k to $300k range. So that, plus what appears to be a $75k to $500k market value of these older jets puts me at my $600k budget.

I'm trying to figure out an overall, multi-year strategy to make this happen, some questions would be:

- How can I efficiently research the additional costs I will need to consider when jet shopping? Is there a jet-refurbisher out there who takes these 40 year old jets and does the whole whiz-bang to them? That seems like someone who would know.

- Whats the least expensive way to go from absolutely no pilot training to private jet pilot?

- What amount of training would be considered conservatively "safe" and as ready as could be for emergencies? I.e., not the minimum.

- What about also training to become a jet mechanic so I can do the maintenance on my jet myself? How long does that take and how much does it cost?

- What about somehow paying for the jet and my training by becoming a commercial jet pilot and flying my jet for hire? Does the math work out on that?

- Is a major cost of training going to be paying for the thousands of hours of fuel in my jet? (assuming its more expensive than the prop-plane part of the training)

Thanks for any help! I'm very well aware this is an expensive and complex process, but that hasn't stopped any of you has it? :wink2:

:nono::nono::nono:

Ah great! I'm dealing with the GREATbugs bunny generation! That explains it.

FTFY
Don't feel bad, while the Bugs Bunny generation may not be as great as our WWII parents and grandparents, we are light years ahead of the current group of 15 year old Internet heroes! :D
But, honestly, this thread has been fun, most trolls aren't this persistent. ;)

Nah what's up doc? I prefer macaroons to maroons but JG is tracking wild wascal wabitts as Elmer Fudd would say.

Anyways the toughest crosswind I've landed in as a new pilot was 22kts gusting to 25 in a Piper and that was plenty challenging 'nuff for me but hey John Galt is a gifted mensch so I say go for it. Still if I had his bankroll I'd just get my ratings in an L39 jet than a big Lear. To me it would be way more fun!

:nono::nono::nono:

And flying a PC computer based flight program isn't fantasizing? Micturition head! :goofy:

You're also into Bugs Bunny? Funny, I figured you more for a Teletubbies fan. My favorite was Tinky Winky. How about you?

I would like to take the opportunity to summarize where we are and then we can all move on to other discussions. I realize that right now the spotlight is on me, and I am a very fascinating individual whose skills and talents have probably not been equaled before in POA and so there is a lot of attention being paid on me. Sadly there are way too few natural aviators such as myself, aviators who live and breathe flying to the point where training becomes superfluous.

Just this morning I was able to recover my Lear 24 from a flat inverted spin. I astounded even myself with my prodigious abilities.

I do understand that I am required to have certain qualifications to remain legal and so will ensure I get those in the minimum legal time.

Thanks again for your adulation and support.

They say if you jerk off too much you'll go blind. I'd be careful if I were you.

No JG I'm more of an anime fan actually. You just had me figured as an Elmer Fudd kinda guy lol.
