the "not worthy of it's own thread" thread

I’ve been waiting for Oshkosh to start in order to order my Power Flow exhaust system. Today by happenstance I looked at their website and noticed that the sale had started today instead of coinciding with the Osh date. So…. I ordered my system. In order to get the full $300 show discount, 31 more people have to order a system. I don’t doubt they will but being the first to order one puts me at the top of the list for delivery.

if you look at their site, there is a countdown timer for the sale to end. As of right now, there is one order. That one is mine :)

So I opted for the regular discount of “I’ll take the latest delivery date” for $200 plus a potential show discount of $300. This gives me a delivery date of the end of November. IF and this is a big IF, they aren’t backed up and I’m the first one on the list, I could get delivery much sooner.

This is starting to sound like the Baseketball postseason:
So, if the Beers beat Detroit and Denver beats Atlanta in the American Southwestern Division East Northern, then Milwaukee goes to the Denslow Cup, unless Baltimore can upset Buffalo and Charlotte ties Toronto, then Oakland would play LA and Pittsburgh in a blind choice round robin. And if no clear winner emerges from all of this, a two-man sack race will be held on consecutive Sundays until a champion can be crowned.

I think I am suffering from Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia.

Do I need to tell my AME.??

Just go basic med, and spread some black pepper in your back yard.

That must be some crazy DALT judging by how hard the mixture was yanked.

I was reminded this past weekend that when landing with a gusting crosswind to add a bit-o-speed when the gust decided to not gust anymore and I dropped us out of the sky unceremoniously onto the runway....

I have suffered from ephelides since I was a very young child. Is this something I should be reporting on my medical.??

This happened to me flying into RR in 2021. Really stiff breeze from the west to a north/south runway (ish). windward of the runway were buildings and trees. on final as I duck below the treeline (maybe 10 feet AGL), all of a sudden my stall horn was blaring and i was 15 feet left of the runway right on top of the PAPIs! Full throttle, go around and I knew what to expect the next time around.

As this was my first PoA fly-in, after I did get it down and parked, I was greeted by bunches of friendlies and handed a beer. You see, deep down, we're a good bunch of people.

Of course, this was before @eman1200 arrived.

So today I’m standing in our company’s boardroom, looking out over Central Park from 38 floors up. And I see a blimp. What?? Wait. It looks like a blimp but it’s maneuvering a little more quickly than I’d expect. And the proportions are wrong for what I know the distance to be. Then it turns broadside to me, and I see that it’s advertising “shark week”.

As near as I could determine, it looked like a sort of a paramotor type arrangement but with a big-ass inflatable blimp-looking thing in place of the para-wing thingie. I couldn’t tell for sure. I watched it do a couple laps of Central Park and then got back to work.

Hadn’t ever seen anything like that before. I was idly curious whether it was Part 103, and even if it was what kind of permits or clearance the guy (or woman) had to have to orbit part of Manhattan at roughly 500 AGL.

You didn't snap a picture? You didn't get an N number?

Didn’t occur to me to get a pic, really… was pretty busy at the time. I didn’t see a reg number, and after watching it for a few minutes I suspect it may have been an ultralight. A web search turned up tethered advertising blimps and indoor RC advertising blimps, but nothing like that…. I did find this, though:

What airspace were you in? Perhaps ADSB was required and you could look up the flight track at the usual websites.

It's New York's Central Park. Apparently it's not a big deal to fly over, which kind of surprised me.

Well what do you know...

The local roofing company that has not been answering their phone for at least the last 6 months called this morning and asked what we were calling about...

Hope you told them you were looking to get your car fixed.

WTF else would someone call a roofing company?

Sounds like we’re both victims of elective surgery. It doesn’t help that to accomplish one thing, other things surface.
Oh well, that’s airplane ownership

On the way home from OSH, I got a traffic call about a mooney in front of me. She then said to the mooney, "traffic is at your 6 o'clock, 2 miles, 500 feet above, a Lance with about a 20 knot overtake"

Make way for the family truckster! :D

Great, you were faster than a mooney in the pattern, congrats! ;)

That's a little bizarre. I was trucking along and some ADS-B target was rounding outside MKE airspace, but 30 kts slower. Well, my airport was 20 miles out, time to start my descent from 3500 to 2000, because 500 kts, ya know? Tower takes my call out and runway request, which inspired that guy to call tower and request landing too. "Mooney 1000' below, 12 o'clock, follow that traffic." Just prior to landing, toward bounces him to a crossing runway as he was too close. He had the last laugh as I had to do a 180 to go back to the taxiway and not run into his runway.

After re-racking a piece of equipment and having the transponder on during testing, I can verify that you don't have to fly in order to have your plane show up on https://globe.adsbexchange.com/

Anyone know why KPWK was closed this AM? Had to scrub a trip. Wondering if it was my poor planning vs an incident or something.

Yup. Any chance you know why? Looks like it was NOTAM’d starting from 4am local. I can’t figure out when it was issued (versus effective). For example, if it was planned, I could have moved the plane to a different airport yesterday.

Wild guess, the new NOTAM notes faded runway markings. They are probably scraping and painting. I’m sure there is a mailing list for the airport but I cannot tell you what it is. I seem to get all the KUGN ones which is pretty useless for me.

It has now been 10 weeks since I've flown. I've never been out of currency since getting my IR. Got til the end of the month to get some approaches in. Hopefully the plane is airworthy by next weekend.

Could always rent to keep current.

I'm always available to safety pilot in a p32r...
