Check out the NACA duct on the bottom of the wife's car:

She flew with me just fine. Although I did learn how the intercom isolate thing works in the club plane…

Boarding a plane I said “whuddup captain?” to a dude wearing three bars and he said “whuddup”, not “no sir, I’m just a lowly first officer“. Is that stolen valor and should I make a citizens arrest?

Only if you were in your citizens' arrest uniform, which of course has 5 bars.

I had a trip yesterday and today and had a rental car for this trip. Hotel was only a mile or two from the airport, lots of restaurants near by. So here I go driving around yesterday and today. I go to return the rental car at the FBO and the fuel gauge still shows all the electronic chits as if it were full.

See here:

So here I'm thinking - I won't refill it.

Just got the receipt and it turns out they know to the 10th of a gallon how much fuel there is in the car!!

So they charged me the difference at 10.99/gal. Not sure how I feel about that.

Oh well.

Which company? Asking because I almost always use Enterprise, in part because they've never done that to me. They've done other things, like not have the right car ready, but it's usually followed by - "we'll give you a lower rate for the car" or "we'll cover the gas".

If you have apple, watch travolta’s short aviation movie about a little kid’s first flight.

Avis. Again, not blaming them - I definitely did not put any gas in and I thought I'd get away with it given that the fuel gage still read full. But come on... 1.3 gallons is all I used!

I wonder how they came up with that number. Stick the tanks? Recalculate weight and balance? Downloaded the data off of OBD2? GPS tracker showed you never visited a gas station and reverse-calculated from 15MPG?

I also wonder what would happen if you presented them a receipt for 0.5 gallons added.

I think they get it from the OBD port. Now...is the sensor in the tank capable of that level of precision? I have my doubts. Any excuse to ding you for a few bucks. I think you're correct that a fuel receipt of any kind would've prevented this, but TBH your time is more valuable than the $5 you would've saved going to the gas station.

Probably closer to $10 (1.3 gallons*$10.99/gallon vs. 1gallon*$5/gallon). But point taken.

On the other hand, OBD2 might be able to show fuel flow and that the filler cap was never opened. That's one avenue they could use to calculate fuel usage. Maybe next time pop the filler cap open and re-close it without putting in gas? :)

@kaiser What was the year/make/model of the car?

In my case I was running a little later than I wanted to get the plane ready for passengers (who ended up arriving late). C'est La Vie La Vie!

@kaiser What was the year/make/model of the car?
one of those big [redacted] I mean, futuristic looking 7 pax Hyundai SUVs

Gas cap activity part of the emissions package?

idle question: putting a restaurant tab on a credit card, including the tip, - does the whole amount of the tip go to the server? in other words, who pays the credit card processing fee for the amount of the tip?

Depending on the credit card processor the merchant gets charged monthly or daily for the fees. Ive never worked in food service but I think it would be hard to correlate the fees with each server. I'm sure they just pay it as a business expense.

I think they get it from the OBD port.

They probably just put as much gas in the tank as they could, and then read the gas pump.

Is it “overly used” or “over used”?
