I was fortunate to be up on Vancouver Is. when they did a demo for the air show folks, that is one awesome aircraft. they put 6" of water the whole length of the runway.

those scoops are about 2 foot across, at 90k that will put a lot of water in the tanks.

:lol: Yeah, the scale of the plane makes them look small though.

When they skim along the surface like that, is that flying in the "water effect"?
 
It's called, "Step Taxi".

Not quite, taking on water you are way above step taxi.

When the MARs enters the water to scoop, they are at about 1/4 throttle, as the water comes aboard, the FE must advance the throttles until they are full and lifting off at max rated power.

I read recently that both the existing MARs have been retro fitted with turbo-compounded 4360s.
